Clemens is done...i still think he should get an opportunity in this league, but i dont want him with the jets no more... Sanchez is playing throw & catch with the recievers already, and Clemens is back in Oregon cleaning the pig farm
And whatever swagger was left over died the second we drafted Sanchez. I hate how this is turning out for Clemens. I wanted to see him do well and I still have faith in him but he clearly doesn't have a future here.
i haven't really seen people talk about this, but is anyone else entertaining the idea that we might potentially have a similar situation to the browns with Quinn/Anderson. Team drafts a 1st round QB of the future only to see the overlooked, forgotten about QB already on the roster light it up. Its very likely that Clemens wins the starting job from the rook and who knows...he just may surprise and keep the job, i mean its not like he stunk up the joint when he was starting (on a way shittier team). I just hope that the Jets FO has the smarts to handle the situation better than Cleveland if that were to happen
I don't recall ever seeing too much swagger from him. Stagger? Yes. Swagger? Not so much..............
Clemens has 1 season left on his contract. I think he may get the chance to start in 2009 and if he plays well enough he may draw some interest. Teams tag players like that all the time and then trade them to a team that doesn't want to get into a monetary bidding war for an UFA. But unless Kellen turns into the next Joe Montana for 2009, he'll either re-sign as a backup or go to another team in 2010. Trading up for the 5 pick is a sign of investment. The moment they made that pick, Clemens was dead to the Jets.
Who cares? For some players, that's not all that matters. Some actually play just for the love of the game and others want to hang around for the money. Maybe that's what's more important to them than what random strangers think. Besides, when you look back at MJ's career, what're you gonna remember the most? His decade of dominance or his stint in Washington? No one's gonna give a shit about the later in a decade from now, if they haven't already purged it from their memory banks.
Dead to their future after this year. But he could still be handled in a way that allows for a good transition for Sanchez and the possibility of increasing his trade value.
Clemens has a real chance to be a good QB. At his next stop down the road, wherever that is. When the Jets took Sanchez they closed the door on the Kellen Clemens show in NY. As to the swagger, Clemens had a very strong swagger in his first camp in 2006 - then reality in the form of a healthy Chad Pennington took it away. Backup rookie Qb's can't swagger very much. In 2007 Clemens probably beat out Chad in training camp but Mangini wasn't running a real competition and it didn't matter. From the end of TC in 2007 to the moment Sanchez was drafted was essentially just a long prelude to Clemens exit from the Jets. It may happen as early as training camp this year or it may wait until free agency in 2010 but it's going to happen. On the Favre thing, why the heck do any current Jet's players care what is going on with Favre at this point? What's the relevance here? Kerry Rhodes better start concentrating on being a great safety again because he's going to be history himself if he keeps playing like he did last year. Spending time worrying out loud about other players no longer with the Jets (or never with the Jets) just makes him look like an under-achieving player trying to focus attention elsewhere.
Who cares? Real purist sports fans like myself care. Maybe you don't give a shit if they damage their legacy but all-time greats like Jordan damaged his legacy forever. There is no going back. If you followed Jordan from the time he was at UNC and entered the league in '84 then you would care. He took what was the most dominating single professional sports career (I'm talking real sports basketball and football) and completely tarnished it to serve his own selfish interests with the Wizards. Millions of his fans lost respect for him when he couldn't let go. Same for Favre. Do you think the Packers fans will care for him the same if he goes to the Vikings and only remember what he did for them in GB? Hell No!!! They will remember him for being a turncoat and a selfish prick who thinks he is bigger than the game. The point is NO athlete is bigger than the game. You may not think there's anything wrong with it but there's a shitload wrong with it. These guys just make themselves look desperate and selfish when they keep hanging on. People get tired of them and their BS act and it totally turns off sports purists like myself. I could care less if he wants to come back for the money or what his reason is for coming back. The point is if you can't play at the level you could that people remembered you for then it's time to move on and let your legacy do the talking. Oh the random strangers you talk about are the same strangers who bought their season tickets, jerseys and backed them religiously for years. Those random strangers are called their fanbase and we put them on that pedestal. So without us strangers, these "Icons" wouldn't be nearly as revered as they are.
i'd like to know how many people actually give a shit about the end of jordans career. My guess is somewhere in the 3-10 person range.
Well I hope you're not a betting man then. Millions of Bulls, UNC and NBA fans would disagree with you.
Ok, maybe not millions but A Lot. Remember your judged by your entire body of work. Unless you're a biased observer and CHOOSE to have a selective memory of your favorite athletes. No fan forced these guys to come back. They did it on their own volition and they have to live with the consequences of how it impacts their legacy.
Clemens is set to become a RFA at the end of the season. No need to tag him, just offer him a tender commensurate with what he does this season.
Ty Law is like the football equivalent of the American Pie franchise. Solid at first, entered into a decline, you figured it was done, and yet every time you think they finally realized that it's a bit too old and stale to keep going, they pop out another installment.
