Blitz why did the Dolphins give Porter $20 million in guarantees? Was anyone else offering anywhere near that? I watched him a lot and while he used to be a top notch player he definitely wasn't last year. The only thing he was good for is rushing the qb if the tackle was already engaged with the RE. If he had to take on the tackle forget it he was useless. I can't imagine multiple teams were offering him similar contracts.

That is a lot of money, and I was shocked when we signed Porter. I never thought we'd even enter the bidding. He was only on the market for a very short time, and the only other team who was serious about Porter{as far as I know} was Cincy. I'm not sure what they were offering, but I'm sure it was somewhere close to what he signed for with us....

Although he's older now, I think Porter is still a great player. As long as he's healthy, I think he'll make a big impact on the Phinz defense this year, especially when rushing the passer. Porter / Taylor should generate plenty pressure in my opinion...

He has one average season, and now he's no longer a standout player on defense?? Porter is a beast, and he'll be playing with a huge chip on his shoulder this year. Any offense underestimating Porter this year, is just asking for trouble in my opinion. Even if he's not capable of racking up double digit sacks anymore, he's still freeing up guys like Taylor / Thomas / Crowder / Roth / and Holliday to balance it all out....

Our defense is not a concern right now in my opinion, and even if we spent alittle too much in adding Porter this off-season, I think he'll prove to earn his keep when all is said and done. Afterall, he wants to finish his career in Miami, so that 20 million may be his last big pay day....

    PHINZ RULE!!!

Yeah but if he's just not good anymore? If a pass rusher loses just a little of speed of the edge and he becomes just another player. He could turn out to be a great sign but I think the fins needed to spend their cash in other places and I think they negotiated against themselves. I think it will take time but Cameron will get them going in the right direction.

We added Seau very late in his career, and he turned out to be serviceable for a couple of years. I don't remember how much we gave him though. I highly doubt it was anywhere near 20 million. As for Porter, he could become one of those average players coming off the edge, but until the season starts, we wont really know. I'm not expecting a huge impact, but certainly one that will allow this defense to continue playing at a high level....

They may have made a mistake, and done exactly what you stated in terms of negociating against themselves. Only time will tell if it was a mistake paying Porter that much money. His performaces, along with his on the field / lockeroom leadership will determine that.....
