The more they like the four guys you mentioned the better the chance they try. But they're not likely as good prospects as Goff/Wentz, remember that. There's a long way to go to get a true idea of what these guys are and how they grade out. Hopefully they do well and we grab one of them. But he's not gonna mortgage the future if they don't grade out to that spot. If they can't swing one of the those four I hope they at least grab Jackson later somehow.
To me Lamar Jackson is undraftable unless you draft another quarterback infront of him and he is just in case. I have zero faith in any run first qb to be a franchise player, they all snap like brittle in the pros
To be fair Watson isn't a run first QB, he doesn't even run as much as Wilson. But also to be fair to Lamar Jackson he has greatly improved his passing and pocket presence this year and he is the most electric open field running qb since Vick
Watson snapped like brittle two-thirds of the way though his rookie season. Running QB's are all a huge risk because the defense gets some free shots at them and there are a few teams that will do whatever it takes to try to get the QB off the field.
Given the choices, I don't see a good option on the table. The Geezer gives us more of the same. Smith can't win the big game even with a big lead. I don't see any other WCO vets around that is an upgrade over McCown at a reasonable price. the Organization loves the guy for what that's worth and given his rep, he's the perfect bridge Qb to the new kid. The problem is Bowles penchant to favor vets. If we luck up and get one of the top 5 QboTFs, it comes down to are they day one ready or not and if not, how long does Bowles keep them in bubblewrap. I'd hate to see what happened to Hackenberg happen to any other young Qb ever. That was a crime.
The only thing the Jets did wrong with Hackenberg was overdraft him. I'm not at all surprised he did not see the field in the first two seasons. There were always 2 QB's better than him on the roster.
Which makes him a prime target for the Jets, whomever is the least likely to succeed they'll go all in.
Lord this thread turned fast lol We've got Revis, Alex Smith, Darnold, Allen, Jackson, Hackenberg and Watson mentions.
The Organization passed on that opportunity this season. All they had to do was split starts between Petty and Hackenberg and they would have been sitting in the top 3 at least. They preferred to play McCown because Bowles was under the impression his job was in jeopardy even though the bar was set so low he could have tripped over it on the way to the lockerroom.
It's funny we always talk about "running QBs" getting hurt, but look who else got hurt? Aaron Rodgers (2 collarbone injuries in his career) Carson Wentz Derek Carr missed time; twice in 2 years Our very own Josh McCown Injuries are part of the game, wherever you are a pocket QB or a QB on the run. Bridgewater and Watson, both were injured by freak incidents. I'll gladly take Jackson at 6, part of me wishes we took Watson last year. However, I still don't know if his arm will be good in windy conditions.
Except that he's not 'A run first QB'. Nobody's drafting him as such either. He may end up going fairly high too. You have to see how things develop with the evalautions before you make declarations like that. You're demands might change.
You're right they are drafting him as a wide receiver. And if he turns out good for us great, it's not my job to pick them it's macs and he picked petty and hack
I hope Gruden signs him this summer and he helps give the Raiders a second consecutive disappointing season. Revis gave up a long, long time ago. He got paid, he stopped caring. He was average at best in Tampa, OK in New England because he was motivated by a ring, but once he had his ring and he got his third and final gigantic payday from the Jets in the summer of 2015, he stopped caring. He was a good up and coming young player in 2007 and 2008. He was an all-time great player from 2009-2011. Since then.... a lot left to be desired.
