I guess, I was watching a different game! I thought Miller played well!!! JM is one of my favorites and always watch his game. I saw only one play where he played slightly off a WR on a out pattern. Jeez......give the guy a friggen break.
lol the guy was a rookie last yr. somehow players give wideouts a 3 yr pass coming into the league, when its even harder to cover these guys. Miller will be fine and in fact as others have pointed out, has the makings of a shut down corner. He just needs to be coached up some because physically hes a phenom at his position. he makes easy mistakes, which is normal for such a young player. mangini and henderson are polar opposites and have their knacks for DB's, so I'm sure Miller is adjusting to working under new coaching. that may be a cheap excuse, but the kids entering his second year. he has tremendous upside and I've been impressed with him when he is in; aside from obvious troubles he has recognizing routes from time to time. his flaws seem very coachable, thats the jist of what I'm saying. him and washington as our KR. could bode very well for our ST. (be warned im expecting comments on last seasons JAX debaucle which brought many skeptics to Millers ability) either way good day fellow jets
I don't know, Miller did seemed to get burned alot in the game, he seemed way off on plays, then again besides the barrett int, no one in the secondary shows promise, one thing i got from watching the replay yesterday, Where is Dyson? I hardly notice him on the field......is he even playing?
Hitting hard is not a prerequisite for playing safety. I much rather a safety have a nose for the ball and be a sure tackler than hit hard. Miller likes to go for the big hit too often. He's always throwing his shoulder into the offensive players rarely wrapping up. Sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses. He needs to realize when you wrap up you pretty much always win.
Miller was poor in coverage in college and missed too many tackles. He had 2 passes defended and 0 Int's as a rookie. He has no instincts. Instincts can't be taught.
hahah. dude, you are clueless. he set numerous records in college and had some fantastic INT's. i'm sure many of them came from BOTH athleticism and instincts. cheers
Please don't anyone say that Miller "got burned". If you need a reminder of what "burned" is - please go back and re-watch the old Otis "My Man" Smith footage. Alot of completitions were made to the man that Miller was covering when the Jets were blitzing. He never let his man get behind him however. That's a gold star for Justin if you ask me. Also - those blitzes are designed to get to the QB alot faster than they were. Even a godly cover corner can only stay with his man for so long. The play last night that stands out to me was in Washington's first series(I'm pretty sure it was). Miller is covering Moss man up and Moss tries to run a quick hitting slant. Miller hits Moss immediately and breaks up the play. Man - if that isn't instincts then I don't know what is. To take away a quick hitting slant from one of the fastest men in the league? That was either good instincts or really big balls. If he was wrong and it turned out to be a double move - then we would have seen "burned".
Good post..hoping this was the case. He had a very hard time recognizing out routes...it could be that..or just the typical young player fear of being beaten deep. Hopefully you are correct...because at times..he looked lost.
like someone mentioned, Miller's critiques are coachable; i'd be much more worried if he didn't have the physical attributes too. but since he's super athletic, fast, and a solid hitter, the other stuff (i.e. route recognition, etc) can be taught to him. cheers
All U advocates of JM read the bottom of this link http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/story/445570p-375198c.html
He had good coverage and pursuit to the opposite side of the field on running plays, but no action really came his way. With Miller that far off of his receiver, why throw anywhere else?
