How about the Cleveland game? McCareins single handedly won that game for the Jets. He caught the pass that put the Jets in scoring position, then made a huge play to turn a little WR screen into a TD. Sure, everybody remembers the bomb against SD in the playoffs and the punt return against the Steelers. But what about the rest of the season. Is your memory that short? Moss was good for a drop or two a game and never ever even tried to return a punt. He ran out of bounds on almost every return. It was blatant and obvious. Moss had a horrible 2004 when the Jets had an offensive line and a QB. McCareins had a tough year when the Jets had no OL and no QB. I give McCareins the pass before I give it to Moss.
I'm not going to say McCareins had nothing to do with the Jets making the playoffs, he was a starter on that team, but I do think Santana Moss is a better football player. I agree with you about the punt returns. No excuse for that. But what about the deep pass he caught in week 2 that helped set up a TD when San Diego was coming back? The bomb in Arizona? He made a big play on the game winning drive in Cleveland.
He also has the tools and was improving each year until he ran into a wall of horrible QB's and bad play calling along with some nagging injuires... The guy knows hard work and will but his butt trying to be the best he can be - That is half the battle and all you guys creaming over Chrebet should at least acknowledge that much. he WILL put the work in and I believe if we can get an offense built here he can be a real big part of it.
Actually his best year was when he was a third or 4th option in his third year in TN. He has never proven to be a solid 2nd option.
Actually, did you read what I wrote? I didn't say anything about a best year or #2 option - I'm telling you what I think of his TALENT LEVEL... that's all.
Fair enough, I disagree with you on his talent level. What I see is a role player type of WR who would do well as a third or 4th option. Most really good WR show it by year 2 or 3. This guy is entering year 6 and really hasn't shown the ability to be the man.
I was terribly disappointed by McCareins' inability to put any effort into going after deep passes all last year. If he was hurt, that's fair enough, but he looked inept. The year before I liked him, even if he was incapable of puting together a 100 yard receiving game.
Everyone dropped balls last year, Coles included. Obviously a bad year all around for everyone on the team, J. Mac will be fine this year.
