Oh I dont give a shit, my point is we got production out of the QB position and we were terrible. We're replacing that QB with an even worse QB and a rookie staff, then for good measure we took away WR2 and TE1. I'm just not understanding how anyone could expect the product to be better.
Not talking about cost. Taking about the probability of it working out here. Nobody on this board spent more time talking about the possibility of Rodgers not working out here before he didn't then i did. But even through all that I still never doubted his floor was certainly going to be higher and upgrade the situation. Fields' floor, and I'd personally even argue as the most probable outcome, is Zach Wilson. Which was more "unwatchable" to me then last year with Rodgers was.
because there's more than 1 way to win football games. The Jets had the single worst rushing attack in the NFL last season, in part because the QB was a statue, called unimaginative plays at the line and could barely get the snap off. He's since been replaced by a running QB who lead the NFL's 1st rushing offense (2022) and 2nd rushing offense (2023) as a full time starter. I also believe the "production" you are referring to with Rodgers last season is misleading. it was not an efficient or consistent passing offense
you have to consider cost. Obviously if we paid another QB $100 million dollars he would be a better passer than Fields. Rodgers didn't live up to that cost and Fields is 1/3rd of the price.
How can his floor be Wilson when all else fails, he’s still has his elite rushing to fall back on? Wilson didn’t have that.
I mean how do we end up with a 31st ranked run game with Breece Hall and an increased investment going into the OL and RB room last year? We are the New York Jets. The floor is that low because we basically specialize in churning out lowest floor outcomes lol
Again, I'm well aware. The point remains that this year has potential to be much much worse when you consider a bad QB with almost no talent at WR and TE and a rookie staff.
Breece was the biggest problem last year in the running game. Metrics show he is bottom of the League in multiple categories, but most importantly yards over expected. I don't know why that is, he seemed to have done a lot better in 2022 and 2023. Could it be that Tony Dews sucked? Maybe he had undisclosed injury? Or maybe he is overrated. But whatever the case may be Breece sucked last year and that's the big reason why we didn't run the ball well.
Fields is not a Hail Mary. It's just the beginning of the game for AG/Mooge. They wanted to try the best young player they could get their hands on this year in Fields (Cam Ward is out of reach) and if that does not work, they will then draft a QB, I am certain of that. Rodgers was the end game for JD/Saleh. They already played the whole game with Zach Wilson and failed. So, they went for Hail Mary at the end of the game with Rodgers as they had no other options to make it work. And failed again in spectacular fashion.
we were last in the league in rushing attempts that’s why. Sacrificed the running game for Rodgers’ famed production numbers
Here is my take. No matter what the results are this year, a few will make the case that whatever JF accomplishes AR would have done better because of his stats. That is a vacuum analysis that fails to recognize that all the other factors do not remain constant when you plug in a completely different style QB. Is AR statistically a better QB at this stage, yes , but what influence did he have on the rest of the team, starting with the OL schemes, RB formations, and WRs that did not please him. The answer is not worth a damned. We could not kill the clock, we could not score in the red zone, we were predictable and inefficient on the run, often not gaining ground on third and short. AR is not a fit for the team we want to build. I believe with JF the whole freaking team will improve. How that relates to wins and losses remains to be seen. But sure as shit we no longer will be one dimensional. The AR experiment is over. It didn’t work. Time to move into the future. Let’s start building this team for a complete, mobile QB now, and if not Fields whomever we develop in the future.
We DID have a bad QB, an inexperienced Ulbrich at HC, Hackett at OC, and a feckless Douglas at GM. The only thing that might have gotten worse is WR/TE with Adams and Conklin leaving. We lost talent on D also, but with such a terrible Defensive performance it can't get much worse. Same goes with the offense imo. This new regime seems to have already punted on the 2025 season which i have issue with, but to suggest it might be much much worse than the trainwreck we just watched from 2020-2024 is just disingenuous. We are already at the bottom of the barrel.
I've been very underwhelmed by this offseason and haven't posted much. There are about two moves only that i liked, and it's hiring Aaron Glenn as HC, and taking a shot on Fields at QB for that price. Having a tough big QB that can handle the winds and pick up 3rd down conversions with legs when the Oline inevitably breaks down is all a huge plus imo. My expectations are that once again we will not make the playoffs, I'm just hoping for an interesting season and product on the field. Until they put football guys running the strategy of the team, and not handing the keys to all franchise decisions to a promoted scout with no oversight, its going to be an uphill climb. Those two will have to overcome quite a bit. So if we are shooting the moon (which we are again) I'll take my chances on Glenn and Fields.
