If you don't want to play the what if game then how do you know how Minshew would have played on the Bears?

The Niners and Jets worst draft moves in history is your evidence of Fields talent? lol

Everyone on this board wishes the niners would have given us two firsts and a third to move up and take Zach Wilson. Imagine where we'd be right now if that happened.

I'm saying we need to do it right and not panic and rush into an expensive move before were ready, like we always do, and are preparing to do. We were 3 games below .500 last year, not a wildcard team. Fill holes and do this next year, and maybe find someone young to develop along the way.

Well I think it matters when it comes to evaluating the Jets organization and Joe Douglas. It's not like Wilson was some extreme reach even though he turned out to be bad. It happens all the time. The Niners would have taken him at #2 (and given up resources for the right to) and I bet the Pats and Bears would have taken him over Fields as well.

So yeah, I'm not taking about the results. I'm talking about the actual choice of selecting Wilson. Bro

How many times did I hear that during the 2021 draft season whenever I pointed out how stupid picking Wilson was.

That’s a lot of speculation to be honest. Maybe it’s right? I don’t think as many teams were on the Wilson hype train as you think. It was loud here but who knows what it was throughout the league.

I don’t think it’s that much of a panic move. There are two bonafide top 15 quarterbacks available in the same off-season. The Jets have the DROY (All-Pro) and OROY on their rookie contract for at least two more years before they’re allowed to bitch and arguably the best IDL in the league.

That’s a pretty unprecedented scenario creating a three year window where you likely won’t have another shot in the top 5ish for a while.

You want to take the Colts approach of figure out a QB later that hasn’t worked.

I feel highly confident that the Niners wanted Wilson. When they couldn't trade with us they went what they felt was the next best thing: Lance.

As far as the Pats, I truly believe they preferred Jones over Fields. Fields would have made Belichick lose his mind.

I don't think it was a "Wilson hype train." Fields was viewed as very raw and Jones was viewed as a low ceiling type of guy.

Fields may very well turn out to be a great QB in the vein of Jaleen Hurts. But the guy needs to learn how to play QB from a passing perspective. And all of what I am saying has nothing to do with how Zach Wilson turned out.

I agree with most of it. It was also rumored the eagles wanted Zach in addition to the niners.

Remember they were all three watching together at Zach's pro day. 30 minutes after it ends the niners trade up to 3 with miami, and an hour later the eagles trade down to 12 with miami. Everyone knew JD was keeping the pick within an hour of Zach's pro day.

Probably because they all saw what Douglas did, unless he called the Niners and Eagles and told them to not bother with an offer which I find preposterous. But you never know

Back then they were trying to say that the niners started making trade offers at pick 5, then went to 4, before finally settling on 3 with Miami. Posters on this board were using that report and saying, "see, they never made the Jets an offer because they weren't interested". Like the niners wouldn't be interested in moving up to pick 2 and controlling their destiny over picks 3,4, and 5.

What's your point? If they knew the Jets had no intention of trading the pick, why would they make an offer? Did they make an offer to the Jags? Did the Jets make an offer to the Jags?

If the 49ers wanted him why would they trade right below the Jets? I think it's clear now that they didn't want him, were blowing smoke, and were targeting Lance

TLDR: Fields is an elite runner and below average passer with a small chance of being the next Josh Allen. Wilson is bad.

Niners will take Wilson in heartbeat on the cheap. But honestly we should trade for Justin Fields too. Fields in this offense with all these weapons and his running ability – we will be a difficult team. All JD needs to do is draft/sign OL or Center.

Wilson is not bad at all - he's just not made for NY. So it's pointless to keep him around.

that may be the best plan honestly but I don’t think JD and Saleh really have that option. Last season showed that the team should be ready for a playoff birth in year three…this coming season…and despite the horrid QB play, we were winning when Hall was running behind an OL that was mediocre or average at best, but when he went down and the OL got hit with more injuries and deteriorated, the bad QB play couldn’t put up enough points and we lost. The defense got tired, players got frustrated, etc.

whatever, but I think the expectation from the owner is playoffs (unsaid mandate) and get a real QB (Woody pretty much dictated that)

so like it or not, I think JD and Saleh both are feeling that….

Also a high chance of injury-related ineffectiveness due to play style.

Guys that run like Fields have a high probability of getting injured.
