Just how good was Revis last year?

The Colts OL wasn't the problem last year, the Jets Ol was our biggest problem. Could sanchez have helped? sure but no QB would have had success w/ this OL. Some of the top guys like Peyton and Brady would have done better but they would not have had their normal great years behind this OL.

The Colts offensive line ranked behind the Jets in nearly every advanced statistical category Football Outsiders charts, from "line yards" to "power success" to "sack rate" to "stuffed rate."

Trotting out Donald Brown -- a back with like 130 carries -- as proof of the Colts' o-line not being "the problem" is what's laughable. They were awful.

And another thing: what about the offensive line has changed, if they're the problem? The coaching might be improved (emphasis on "might", since it's not like the Dolphins' o-line was very good, either), but what else? Where are the new faces? Where's the "guru"?

does football outsiders chart how bad the QB was? that plays a role, they had a guy start the season who was retired on his couch a couple of weeks before the season and another guy who can't play in this league start most of their game. Notice how when they had decent QB play w/ Orlovsky they started to win?

Sanchez had no time to throw, the OL didn't open holes, I haven't seen an OL this bad since the 2007 Jets. The Colts team was pathetic b/c they quit, their OL was not as bad as the Jets.

Donald Brown's 130 carries don't tell you anything(even though he averaged much less w/ Peyton a year earlier w/ similar carries- I thought he was supposed to make the OL/run game better?)? how about Brown and Addai vs. Greene and LT?

    Brown/Addai: 252 carries, 1078 yds, 4.3 YPC
    Greene/LT: 328 carries, 1334 yds, 4.1 YPC

    which is better?

It's hard to evalate OLs not knowing scheme and the ability of the players around them but knowing the Jets personnel pretty well and seeing quality OL play for years I can tell you our OL was brutal and the biggest reason the QB struggled.

Where will the Jets OL hopefully improve?

    1. Mangold will be healthy- that was a HUGE loss especially w/ our best bakcup OL out in preseason.

    2. Slauson played hurt all year

    3. Brandon Moore missed all of camp

    4. Hopefully Hunter w/ a full offseason can play more like he did postseason 2010 than he did reg season 2011.

Are they trying to follow the "Patriot Way" and amass draft picks that have no where near the positive impact they should have on the team?

Seriously, Revis is one of the few corners in NFL history you can build a defense around. He's not going anywhere.

You don't build a defense from the outside in.

Just look at the defense your team has built.

What exactly do you add to TGG? I see snide comments and hopelessly optimistic snippets interspersed with calling out people who hold the opposite view.

You haven't posted a single thing since you joined that was worth reading. You don't even analyze you just alternately cheer-lead and throw bombs at people.

Everybody here has a bias one way or the other. Most of us post enough material alongside that bias to make it worth cutting through the webs to look at.

    You don't.

The defense that, statistically speaking, isn't as good as the Jets' defense?

What about the Eagles' defense in the early 2000's with Brian Dawkins? What about the Ravens' defense now (and I know Ray Lewis is there, but don't tel me that he's more valuable to that defense than Ed Reed).

You build a unit (offensive or defensive) around your best player. You want to maximize what they can do on the field. Revis is a player that is so good at his position that he makes the unit as a whole better. The blitz packages the Jets run and the rolled coverages that they apply to #2 WR are made possible by Revis single-handed dominance on his assignment.

If the Jets haven't built their defense around Revis, than who is the cornerstone of that defense?

And that's the point right there.

    Statistics mean crap.

That vaunted, statisistically better, Jets defense couldn't stop a nosebleed in crunch time.

Give me the Giants defense any day of the week.

The giants D played great last postseason w/o a doubt much like the Jets D played the year before when they shut down the game's best offense on the road in the div rd. The difference btw '10 NYJ and '11 NYG is '11 NYg got 2 STs TOs and '11 NYG got a fumble whistled dead.
