Balance was necessary in KC. Herm may have taken it a bit far on the running game, but we did need the balance. A question for you guys. I can tell there is a lot of bitterness towards Herm from Jets fans. Did that just happen that last year or during those 3 playoff years as well?
Many of us soured on Herm even during the playoff runs. I still place most of the blame on him for losing the AFC Division game against the Steelers.
Initially Herm supporter here. And no, I wasn't into Hermism, mind you. *They are pretty funny, by the way.* When Herm first got his job with NYJ, I was in Korea - so there was just no way I could sniff whatever was going on with him. Thus... despite the initial good first-impression, I got sour on him as time went on. One of my major concerns was the aging veterans, and Herm staunchly refused to put the youngsters, that he drafted, on the pitch. I'm sure you will see retreads of these again and again in Herm's tenure there. Anyway... back to Herm business... 1. He runs Club Ed during the TC period. 2. He heavily relies on aging veterans. If you add 1 and 2, you get injured veterans. Since he just never plays his young players, whenever one of the key veterans goes down, that spells doom for the season. Well... but the actual killer was this: He sucked at clock management, he just never makes in-game adjustment and worst of all, he sucks at O and X's. He first never goes for the throat even when the opportunity presents itself. Secondly he plays not to lose. Worst of all is - as any agonizing Jet fan can recall - he wouldn't mind taking a knee at the end of a "losing" game. Hey, where's the fighting spirit? If you look for my posts, (you don't have to) you will easily see that I am more than content to see a franchise as long as that franchise shows improvement from the previous season. Herm's Jets never showed any of that. I didn't really agree initially, when someone from this board claimed that the Jets would have gone much farther into postseason if it had a half of "real" coach - now I believe that is essentially the case. Truly, I felt bad for KC fans when I heard that KC had to give the Jets 4th rounder to pick up this PoS of coach. ("Swindled" was my first impression.) Also, I am not surprised that Trent Green went down (Ok - it was a cheap shot on the part of the defense, but had there been an "adequate" - not even good - protection around him, it wouldn't even have happened anyway.) or the team has regressed so much in terms of defense. If I were you, I'd start "Fire Herm" bandwagon as soon as I see fit.
