The guy has all the skill but doesn't WANT it enough. He would rather live a life where he can smoke and drink and do whatever. He can't keep it together and work to stay in the NFL. Sad but true
Picking up Holmes led to his re-signing. We got 1 good season from him before he imploded. Again, === Never take another team's trash when they are trying to pass it. There's always a reason.
They were two separate decisions though. Trading a 5th rounder for a player is essentially a lease, we opted to invest further in him. That was the mistake. You can't tell me that grabbing Holmes for a bag of Fritos wasn't a HUGE part of our deep playoff run in 2010.
I'll tell you one thing, Holmes gets a lot of hate, but without him we probably don't make the playoffs that year.
And who's to say what he might've accomplished had he been healthy? That lisfranc business is a nasty injury for a WR. I'm not going to play armchair QB and say I knew better at the time because I didn't. It was a steal for a team that was playoff-caliber to get Mark another weapon and the cost was a low 5th rounder. No one was screaming against this at the time and quite frankly, it was an emotionally-charged stupid move by Pittsburgh to trade him to an AFC rival contender and one that nearly bit them in the ass big-time. That was a tough tandem for opposing defenses going up against Holmes and Braylon.
Agreed. The trade was good, but he got overpaid afterwards and the injury pretty much sealed his fate. Most players don't come back from that severe of a lisfranc injury. At the time, the contract didn't seem that bad, except for the fact that it cost us Edwards. If Holmes had taken a little less, we could have kept that tandem together. Edwards had very good chemistry with Sanchez, and adding Plaxico and Mason was the wrong thing to do. Good receivers open each other up. Edwards and Holmes did exactly that. Plaxico wasn't opening anybody up, he never got separation and Mason was over the hill.
I don't know about Edwards being signed if Holmes accepted less...those options weren't really on the table. Holmes was being courted by the Redskins among others and needed to be sealed up quickly as his market value was on the rise. Holmes commanded that deal. Braylon on the other hand, predictably got into more trouble (in a contract year!) at another club and proved to everyone that he couldn't be relied on as a professional and be granted a long-term deal. He forced that issue.
this is really interesting http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...ond-hand-smoke-reason-positive-marijuana-test So basically they split the sample into 2, an A and B sample. The A sample tested positive by 1 ng and the B sample was negative, missing the cut by 1.4 ng. The B test is only used to confirm the A I think, so on average Gordon tested negative but the split caused the positive test, the first in a while since his team said he's taken ~70 tests since his last failed one.
i hope he gets unbanned too.. he is an animal and i always have the browns as my sleeper team i'd like to see them do good.
If it's true that he got it front hanging with other people smoking weed, that still makes him a moron. You are risking millions of dollars to hang with potheads? Seriously?
Gordon's lying. You can't fail a drug test simply from being in the same room as other smokers. He'd literally have to be hanging around those guys all day while they smoke without even trying to avoid it. If they are hotboxing that's another story, but to raise your THC level high enough to fail a drug test, you really have to be trying to inhale it. http://mobiledrugtestinglongisland....oke-cause-a-positive-drug-test-for-marijuana/ This article references an experiment where they pumped 2nd hand smoke for 24 hours straight in a room and the guy passed. It registers very small, but not over the limit they test for.
As your article said, in rare occurrences it can happen. The NFL tests at a stricter level than most other sports so the potential of the rare occurrence is higher with the NFL than other sports. If he passed all the other tests, and on average this sample falls below the positive limit, I think he has an argument. I also believe he has to appeal to Roger right? So it's not getting reversed.
