I don't know what those receivers were doing on a couple of those long routes. They looked lost out there just trying to get 80 yds downfield.
It's not the speed, it's the anticipation. Whether a guy runs fast or slow, you need to be able to adjust. This is a consistent problem with Allen. Can he improve? Probably, but not without a lot of reps. And frankly, I believe anticipation is an innate quality...some are much better than others, and seem to have that advantage naturally.
Still QB4 but not a complete disaster. There’s stuff to work with but I’m still not really interested in taking him on over the other guys.
And the bold has been my position all along though I too have to do some backtracking myself. Reluctantly, I think he might be the guy I would take over the other guys. In a field lacking a guy I'm comfortably willing to stick my neck out for, I rather go with the guy with all the physical gifts and the highest upside who happens to love football, is super competitive and fits my current system. Go big or go home. *EDIT: Don't expect a Josh Allen avatar though.
I've only been able to see some deep ball highlights from his pro day so can anyone fill me with how he performed with short and intermediate throws? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
FWI, it's hard not too look bad tossing balls to open receivers with no pressure. I just don't understand the excitement and value of all this.
He looked outstanding today as he should in shorts. He’s got such a high ceiling like HOF type ceiling. Anticipation will come with reps but his god given gifts are as top notch as it gets
Lmao. Hall of Fame type ceiling. That’s a new standard. Instead of prospects being FQBs, we are moving on up to them being potentially HOF players.
Guys with big arms usually lack anticipation coming into the lead because they hadn't need it up until that point.
I'm still not getting a boner over him yet. I'm ascared he'll have to look down his targets to believe that they're open or actually there even. That he'll be late pulling the trigger. Against air he was good tho, and better than the combine I thought.
Me either. He does not throw with anticipation, but he is very confident in making any throw. He lacks touch on the majority of his passes, he is a great deep ball thrower, but even yesterday he almost overthrew a couple of receivers. He is very slow going through his progressions, even so he starts scrambling around. The supporting cast thing is no excuse for Allen. He was better at the combine then I thought, he was also pretty solid in the 2nd half of the Senior Bowl. Right now, you can't tell me you can start Josh Allen right away and put him in an offense. His skill-sets aren't developed to the point where you see consistency. He needs work, more than any QB in this draft. The kid HAS talent no doubt about it, Mahomes was better ... Mahomes needs work too and you will see this season, some of the struggles he has throwing an accurate football when you lack any sort of touch.
While he’s got a cannon for an arm, one of the misnomers about Allen is that he is a great downfield thrower, on the contrary he’s not accurate % on these types of throws. Want to blame it on his wr + o-line - ok...
You guys are going to need to explain to me what the bold really means. Technically, as long as a rookie QB is able to learn the playbook, call the plays, execute the required footwork/ball handling and throw a football, they can start. Whether or not they are going to set the world on fire is a different story. For goodness sake Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith started for this team as rookies and Bryce Petty as a 2nd year player I think. Neither were very good but they were able to run an offense; Sanchez and Geno even managed to win 8 or more games. So right now you don't think Allen can run an offense where all he is asked to do is hand the ball off, run it himself, play action, RPOs, bootleg and rollouts? You can trust that we're no going to be running the Patriots, Packers or Saints offense next year.
