Matthews would be a great pick at 18. Some might call him the safest pick at WR behind Sammy Watkins. I can't wait to see how he performs during the week leading up to the Senior Bowl and in the game.
I have Watkins, Evans, Lee, Adams, and maybe Benjamin and Cooks rated higher at the moment. Thats me, Im allowed to rank players how I see fit. It seems like a lot of people have this love affair with Matthews, but Ive also never heard anyone here speak of Davante Adams. Dont get me wrong, I do like Matthews as a player and a future pro. I just dont see him being BPA at 18. I also dont see there being a huge drop off between Matthews and someone that may be available in the 2nd to where I would pass over one of the 2 TE's. Also, how do we rank Matthews that much higher for character, professionalism, ect, while not knowing the whole story behind every player? IMO, as fans, we can only rank players based on the film, because thats all we have. We may hear anecdotes about certain players, good or bad, but we are not behind the scenes talking to the players.
I actually like Davante Adams and Allen Robinson as potential 2nd rounders for the Jets. Wouldn't mind if we traded back from the 18 spot either and selected Matthews.
Lax....I'm as as big of a fan of Brandin Cooks around and feel Jordan Matthews is a more polished NFL ready receiver. I think Cooks will be a more dynamic player and have bigger play capability, but Matthews will be that steady player. I'm not ready to fall in love with Benjamin yet as a lot already have, he's still raw with a lot of potential. Benjamin's body of work is a drop in the bucket compared to what Matthew's has accomplished.
Well I think it comes down to player ranks for the Jets vs the NFL. Because for the Jets, I think Matthews may be higher rated because he can contribute immediately. Where as if we are talking about in terms of pure talent, I think Benjamin and Cooks out edge Matthews. If the Jets dont do much to solidify the WR position through FA, Matthews would be a great fit. As Ive said, I dont see Matthews as being BPA at 18 right now. Maybe after Senior Bowl week, that'll change.
The Jets can always select Matthews at #18, and then select Cooks/Robinson/Adams/Benjamin (if he falls that far) at our 2nd round pick. Personally, I'd try to trade back in the mid 20's and select Matthews.
Matthews is probably not going in the 1st round. The drops are at least partially because the QB's he has played with are not that accurate in the placement of their throws. He also gets a lot of hot reads when they are under pressure because he's the guy in that offense. Matthews actually has very good hands if you look at the highlights at least. He snags a lot of back shoulder throws on crossing patterns and he makes a lot of one-handed stabs and comes down with the ball. I'd expect his drops in the pros to be much lower if he winds up with a highly accurate QB throwing to him. Don't know what he would do with Geno.

Someone on here posted the website in another thread... Pretty interesting read, but Im not basing all of my rankings off that obviously. I just noticed wall watching Matthews that he let some passes hit the ground that shouldnt, and I think the link supports that. Benjamin and Ebron have a similar tendency to drop passes as well, but I think they also have "natural hands". They arent body catchers (including Matthews as well) and shouldnt be thrown in the same group as someone like Stephen Hill or Greg Little, but it is somewhat of a red flag that has to be brought up for all 3. Also, I do think it is hypocritical when people call out Benjamin for dropping passes, and then applaud Matthews for having great, reliable hands.
He's probably the most motivated player in this Draft class. He's a perfectionist. He uses everything from drops to his two star rating as motivation. As long as JM produces and plays like he did at Vandy, he will have no issues with the New York fans & media. In fact, Matthews will be a breath of fresh air with his work ethic and professionalism.

If he has a QB who can deliver the ball well he's going to be fine. It's been a mixed bag for him so far in that regard. He has had a ton of throws come his way from every angle and at every velocity.
Without a doubt...this is before the Senior Bowl game, pre-combine, and pro day. There is no guarantee where guys will get picked and some guys will be picked because of talent and potential but in regard to Jordan Matthews at #18 he is my pick because I don't have to worry about durability, route-running, off-the-field issues, or work ethic. His production against good competition speaks for itself.
I'd take Matthews over Lee honestly....would not be shocked if Matthews or Benjamin jumped Lee when its all said and done. There's some real mechanical flaws with Lee that some teams won't like. Also has the unfortunate "USC WRs stink" stigma that haunted Barkley last year with the lackluster USC QB play syndrome.
