I understand you shitting on Winters for obvious reasons, and can see why you'd say the same about Colon because his most exceptional skill seemed to be his ability to draw penalties, but I don't have such awful memories of Slauson. He wasn't a star by any means but I thought he was pretty solid for us in his time here.
Well it's not true anywhere of course. But anyone selling that Br*dy bullshit on a Jets forum should expect even more push back. Super Bowls are a total team accomplishment, not some QB measure. Manning didn't need a second one to be better than Br*dy. I love how upset Pats fans are about it though. fwiw, i agree with your Belichick post..
Bellichickin is nothing without brady. Bellichicken sucked for 5 years as a coach in cleveland. then he was 6-10 his first year in NE (2000) and then 0-2 (2001) until lewis KO'd bledose and brady took over.
Slauson was pretty terrible his first couple years here. totally flat footed on pass pro. Quite similar to Winters in that regard, but he managed to eventually become a competent player. I'm hoping Winters can do the same. he showed a little more this season, but still has a ways to go.
This 100% It's the market for Sheldon! Similar contract money, similar stats, similar upcoming contract demands and similar character flaws... But having said that if Mac did a trade like that for Sheldon I'd be pissed!
I will give Bill credit for pushing for Brady over Tim Rattay, and then pushing him again from #4 to BU just in time to take over for Drew 'did anyone get the plate number of that truck?' Bledso. Having a young stud under center has given Bill tons of freedom both during games (going for it on 4th and 10 deep in the wrong end of the field) to using high draft pics to take not one, but two TEs, which Bill then used to change the definition of the TE position (up until Hernandez got caught with an itchy trigger finger). There has been other HC's with a franchise QB, but few (if any) has used this advantage as arragantly as Belicheck. Trading Jones is very typical for Bill. No different then letting BOTH his starting DBs fly the coop last year only to miss his 7th SB when Denver's d-line decided to turn Brady into a scared little boy. There was always a debate (at least here and the Giants) as to who was the real brains behind the Parcells/Belicheck Batman and Robin era. Anyone who lived through that era care to comment?
Off topic but I woulda LOVED to have drafted Chandler Jones (as many of us woulda) almost as much as I love watching his big brother mix it up. Jon Bones Jones grew up here in Endicott (next to Binghamton) and still spends time here and hanging out in Ithaca. If you meet him out he's a nice guy, humble, but don't get caught F'ing his girl or he'll drag you out of bed and break both of your legs with his bare hands. Real story!
I agree, that's why I stopped bashing Winters. He did show improvement last year and should start again this year. Hopefully Winters takes that next step.
The reason it's NOT a smart move, is because the Pats are a win now team, no need to look even two years in the future. Brady will not have that much time and when he's gone they won't be Super Bowl contenders. Brady is already old for QBs, it's just a matter of when he can't physically come back from countless hits that quickly.
Not going to agree with you on this. Manning is an all-time great, but couldn't sniff the ball dandruff from Brady's jock strap.
Off topic but a fact that should make every Jets fan smile: outside of kickers/punters, Brady is now THE oldest player in the entire NFL.
I'm confident Manning would defer those honors to someone who would really enjoy it......perhaps you? 5 MVP's 7 first team All-Pro's Every major passing record You can argue Montana, Unitas, Graham......maybe even Elway or Marino.......but Br*dy is a fraud.
After trading Mo, what would you do when Sheldon starts threatening to hold out, and the franchise tag jumps over 17M? his next joint will also be a season long suspension. feels like trading Mo would be deferring to a much bigger issue down the line. I'd be looking to trade Sheldon this year or next.
by the time Leonard is up, the tag might be 20M for DE's. the salary cap keeps going up, and players get paid more and more. at some point, we have to pay someone. just make sure it's the right guys, that's the key.
I could give two shits about Manning's records. One Super Bowl ring vs Rex Grossman and another ring courtesy of a great defense. Brady is a winner, controversy or not. 4 Super Bowl rings and 6 appearances to 2 Super Bowls and 4 appearances. Manning has choked more than Jared has choked on footlongs in prison.
