Football Outsiders pegs Jones as a below replacement level running back last season. Counting stats aren't everything, folks. Jones no longer has value. That's why the best job he could find was as a backup.
Hate to see him go but it was a necessity. I wouldn't be happy paying him all that money this year if he were to not produce as he's done the last 2 years.
FYP. I'm pretty sure that is the contract he refused to accept from the Jets when they asked him to restructure. He was pissed off that they took his starting job away from him. It would not matter how much the Jets offered.
I dont get this, it cant be about the money. I'm sure the FO would've paid him that deal unless its all guaranteed. TJ will still back up Jamaal Charles who for anyone who plays fantasy football knows is the 2nd coming of Chris Johnson. Why not stay and compete with our 2 RBs, neither of whom is a lock to stay healthy? I guess pride got the best of him... as Marsellus Wallace said "f*** pride"
x1000 DEAR TGG: THOMAS JONES WAS NEVER AN ELITE RUNNING BACK. NOW THAT HE HAS DECLINED HE IS NOT EVEN AN ADEQUATE RUNNING BACK.
Amen, dude. But I think letting TJ go is a BIG mistake. Just look at his stats over the last 3 years: big yards, many TDs, great yards-per-carry average, and very few fumbles compared with other premier backs. Mike T. ****ed the pooch on this one. Anyway, it'll be S. Green's year to prove his ability for a full season. I think he can do it. Let's go, Jets!
I disagree. this move reminds me a lot of the Yankees letting John Wetland walk and giving the ball to Rivera. you have to know when what you have in waiting is ready and what you had is done. I think Greene is ready and TJ is done.
lmao! so true. my nickname for TJ throughout the entire season was "two-yard Thomas" for a reason. still loved the dude though, he brought a certain attitude, toughness and work-ethic to the team that not too many players possess anymore.
well- good for TJ, he got the $ he wanted. Ok it is time too look else to complete the 3 headed monster. Any word on J.fargas- did he sign anywhere yet? I wouldn't mind having him as our 3rd back...
He's only a year and a half younger than Jones and he's never healthy. The Jets can do better than adding Fargas.
i think he did a little more then take two steps and run into his own line. he did gain over 1400 yards this season, and scored 14 tds. yeah i know it was all the offensive line right. anybody wanna say that they're 100% certain greene will stay healthy all next season AND gain over 1400 yards with 14 touchdowns?
Im sorry but Id be going for the championship at his age, I wouldve taken a cut to play for the jets. The chiefs? Holy shit.
TJ had SFA left in the tank at the end of the year. He was awesome for the Jets up until now, but you have to let it go. He can now fade away to mediocrity with an unbelievably poor offensive line. Thanks TJ, it's been great.
