If we really have an open competition don't be surprised if Jones beats out D'Brick and starts at LT.
I like him as a backup interior lineman. He didn't show squat last year at tackle and our running game really suffered.
Why doesn't anyone think AJ can add some weight and get stronger? People act like he's always going to be the same as he is now. If he hits the weights and bulks up a little, he should be fine.
Watching the players they were rumored to be trying to acquire this offseason, I think they are staying with the zone blocking scheme. And I think the people who don't think Jones can handle the right side want him to back up Brick while we search for that 24 year old Pro Bowl RT that will be cut on June 1st.
Not quite. I wouldve prefered us to address RT through the draft. And I dont necessarily agree we are looking to build an athletic line (not to say we're trying to build a fat, unathletic one)...if anything, if you look at the offseason, you can see we signed the ginormous Anthony Clement for depth, and also made a strong bid for Jon Runyan. I think Jones at RT is just how the cards played out, but in all honesty I do not know that it is the permanent solution
We actually will have alot of options in terms of running plays. we can call all kinds of traps, sweeps and delays that allow the OL to get down field in a hurry and really wear down a defenses back 7.
Doubt it, you generally want a fairly athletic QB for that blocking scheme, as it generally has a rougher time in pass protection than when run blocking (which is like the specialty/upside of it). I mean, think DEN, ATL, and formerly TEN (all have had athletic, not even necessarily meaning scrambling on par with Vick, but Elway, Plummer, etc are mobile....chad and patrick are not..)
