Again, as I said before, he is the root of our problem. Until he hires the right person to lead this franchise we'll continue to be a middling franchise. The problem isn't Woody interfering, rather it's his inability to hire properly. The Jets haven't had one dynamite hire to lead this franchise since Woody's owned the team.
Is that because Woody is poor or at hiring them or poor at managing them or poor at not meddling with them? I don't think it's as simple as he just hasn't hired the right people. I think if there is a problem that Woody is part of, it what goes on after they are hired.
Poor at hiring them. Go through all of the coaches and GM's during the Woody regime. I may leave one or two out but I'm just doing this off the top of my head. You had HC's including Groh, Edwards, Mangini and now Rex. As GM's you had Bradway, Tanny and now Idzik. There's a reason why none of those guys are HC's or GM's in the NFL anymore. It's the people he's hiring. All of those hires were mediocre at best. This goes back to opening up his wallet and spending to bring in a big name. Woody needs to spend big and bring in a proven top name, whether it be a HC, GM or someone who holds both roles. That's the most important step and then he rarely has to get involved.
Mangini and Herm had HC jobs after Jets I thought. Bradway is unfair because we never let him leave right? Herm, Mangini, and Rex all had quick success. That leads me to believe if there is a problem, it's sustaining the success. I don't think it's necessarily the hiring portion only. No no no. I don't want Bill Cowher, a "big name" here running HC/GM or Gruden doing the same.
Hence why I said none of those names are HC's ANYMORE. Furthermore, we saw how well Mangini and Herm performed at their next stints as they were both fired. Lol you really think someone else was going to give Bradway a GM job? That's a stretch, to be kind. Sustained success (wins/losses) falls at the feet of the man in charge, the HC, so you answered your own question there. So who do you want as the next HC then? You almost sound like you're content with the way things are now? Or maybe you're not? One right hire is all it takes.
No I want Rex gone. I'm not content with the way things are now. I don't think Woody is the main issue, and while I don't think his hires are awesome, I don't think that's his leading problem either. I think you have to go offensive minded coach, someone you can trust or has a background designing an offense for a young, rookie QB. That's the key because we are going to need a young QB soon and quick.
Once again where there is smoke there is some fire. The Jets problems have deeper roots than Rex. We do not have a man at the top that has the vision and the talent to upgrade the organization across all aspects with a sustainable and progressive top knotch personnel and coach improvement plan. You can not manage the cap like a champ but have a team that plays like chumps. We need someone that is respected enough and powerful enough to lead us,once and for all, out of this insipient football desert we have been drifting about for the last 40 years. The most important move for the Jets, solely under Woodys responsibility, even before we select a QB, or a HC, is to get a leader that lives, breaths and dreams about nothing but winning football.
You have to be able to work with people you don't necessarily agree with when you're a leader/manager.
That seems silly - anyone who follows the league knows that this team is a decent QB, a couple of CBs, and an O-Lineman or two away from being a playoff contender again. And they'll have the cap room and high draft picks to address all those needs this offseason. It's an ideal situation for a new GM.
I don't think I sound silly at all. I have been on this ride since 1964 and believe me, with a few exceptional seasons and head coaches, we continue to be our own recipe for disaster. A few this and a few that away from contention....by God I have heard that phrase many times over the decades. I am still here, will always be a fan, but believe me it can be truly tortuous at times. We have always seemed to be a decent quarterback away. Makes you wonder why it has taken this franchise so long to find one. It starts there and yet, the owner and GM's never seem to get that first ingredient correct. We have had high draft picks before. I even remember the Jets using a 2nd rounder for a place kicker. You can't say that because we have high draft picks that we aren't going to continue to screw that up either. Cap room is horseshit if we are going to use it to make incorrect picks or go out and collect other team's players on the downside of their careers. We are also a merry-go-round for head coaches, so that does not bode well either. And with this donkey headed owner, we really don't even have a clue as to what direction he is going regarding this GM and what the next one will even be like. If the GM has no power to run the team as the top football administrator, then we might as well let Woody be the NY version of Jerry Jones. But I don't follow the league, silly me.
They had jobs after the Jets because nobody really takes serious people that suck with the Jets..nobody. Herm showed his true colors with Kansas City...the list goes on and on. I keep thinking about a perfect player that teams would die for because he has sucked with Jets...but the other teams will think he is very good and just sucks with the Jets..and thats Cumberland..who truly sucks but teams will go after him. Its the ole Johnny Mitchell thingy. Teams never believe Jet players are as bad as they really are..coaches too..because they sucked with the Jets. What the F is my point..oh...Idizk sucks. Anyone defending Idzik hasnt looked at this roster. He comes from Seattle and the goal was to develop young talent..build with your own...lol..please...Im going to puke just writing that. I said it once early on...and will say it again..dont be surprised if WOODY fires Idzik and keeps Rex. I know..its nuts..but either both go or Idzik goes but Idzik will NOT be here next year with Rex gone. Not for a minute would even Woody do that. The whole NFL knows what some Jet fans are the last to find out..IDZIK is hated by agents...by players...by his coaches...he acts like a guy that has accomplished something and all he has accomplished is 2 of the worst drafts in our history. Yes...Richardson...lets blow him because of Richardson. He left 22 million on the table this offseason so we can resign all the STARS WE HAVE..YOU KNOW..THE 2 AND 11 JETS NEED CAP ROOM TO KEEP ALL OF THIS TALENT WE HAVE.
The problem with Idzik is this is his first time being a NFL Gm witch was a bad move by Woody to begin with,if you were gonna keep Rex then you should have kept Mr T also .It was a terrible fit and anyone who needs a "Firm" to hire there GM for them should be bitch slapped over and over again. Its pathetic the rubble this franchise has been reduced to
I cant even go to the whole "he hired a firm" to get a GM. That like hiring a firm to recruit the best prostitute. What does that even mean? What "firms" are better equipped to see who could be a good GM? What kind of "firms" do this kind of work? Here is what I do not understand about teams like the Jets..you know..laughing stocks. Isnt the best GM worth double the money they are paid? Dont they save you so much money down the road by getting hidden talent? Lets say for argument sake the best GM makes 6 million a year..if you are WOODY and the Jets...wouldnt you pay that guy 10 million? Who is the GM of the Tampa Bay baseball team..getting all that young incredible talent..isnt that guy worth double of a Cashman? If I were Woody I would overpay the hell out of the best GM you can get your hands on...pay the crap out of him..he cant say no. The Jets did this one time in my lifetime when they were laughing stocks and went out and got PARCELLS..and you know what? They stopped being the laughing stocks...talent wanted to come here. Thats the kind of guy the Jets need...and I would pay that guy DOUBLE to come here..because breaking news guys...trust me...I, LIKE OLDER JET FANS HAVE BEEN HERE...we are entering the real dark days of laughing stock-ism...and its tough to get out of.
All I know is if I were a top candidate, as far as HC goes, I wouldn't go to the Jets. Idzik is only part of the problem... As this new penalty flag/towel aptly points out, we need to clean DEEP house. Our draft crew, obviously, sucks. Bradway...sucks...that's not a far stretch to understand. Basically Woody needs to fire everyone from himself on down, go get someone VERY respected and with a proven track record and then just step back and let the man go to work. Period. Until that happens this team WILL struggle for years to come and WILL have a real problem bringing in a proven HC etc...
I can't evaluate Idzik yet, but Rex does need to go. The offense hasn't improved in 6 years, and that's on him. Looks like they barely practice.
2 things here. is it that tampa g.m. finding or was it joe madden developing all that talent in tampa? i mean its not like tanny and rex were stocking the depth chart with gem after gem from the bottom of the draft. its funny though, the tanny mangini drafts weren't this awful. tanny rex drafts were good for 3-4 players, total. now we have rex idzic 20 picks and what looks like 2-3 players out of 20. about the same as rex tanny. common denominator anyone? 2ndly, who is this big time g.m. woody should back the brinks truck up for? the options when hiring a g.m. or coach 99% of the time are a first timer or a guy who was fired for his former team sucking. who we getting that doesn't fit one of those two categories?
I'm actually curious to see what another coach can do with geno. I am not expecting anything but it could be interesting
