I hadn't heard the bolded. Am glad to hear that is a focus. Agreed that this is a great move, and it is surprising. I have to believe that the Jets and perhaps Zach are making it worthwhile financially for Beck. Maybe most of the work he does is during the offseason and the season is relatively slow for him. Plus, he's not an old fart like me, he's young and he can handle a heavy workload. What did you mean about it being shocking to see Beck leave? Leave where?
I am surprised to see him leave his company in California to move to the Jets. It had to be a ton of work to build up that many clients to just leave. That is what I meant.
John Beck is more than a personal QB coach especially for this staff. Beck comes from the coaching tree of Shanahan. In fact Shanahan sends all his QBs to Beck because he knows the offense and has a pretty good track record. Beck will help White not juts Zach. https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/football-team/how-john-beck-went-nfl-journeyman-top-qb-guru
The Jets probably made him an offer he couldn't refuse. The #1 problem on the Jets right now is the QB. Maybe Mike White solves that for us. It's been a long time since something purely good happened to this franchise. We're way overdue.
why is it secret? why does the media have to rely on "sources" to say Beck was hired? There is nothing to hide. If you hired a new QB coach then announce it
The Jets beat writers weren't even the ones who figured it out. It was random Jets fans on Twitter that did. The Jets writers were "beat" to the punch yet again (I'm deleting my account for this horrendous pun).
Who said he left? I'll bet that most of his in-person work with QBs is during the offseason. With Zoom, Facetime, tablets and cell phones I'll bet that much of his work with QBs during the season, occurrs via technology any way. I also think he probably has underlings who know what he wants them to work on with their clients. Even if he did leave it behind, I'm certain that he'd have zero problems picking it back up again, especially if he helps White and Zach become very good QBs. I'm sure he's probably a pretty shrewd businessman, and wouldn't have done this if it wasn't going to benefit him in some way.
A pro-active move with people full of praise for it, it might even be regarded as innovative. Is this the Jets?
His job as a personal QB consultant is effectively over/paused with this move. The Dolphins arent going to want or let Tua to work with the Jets QB coach, for example, zoom or in-person, and the Jets aren't going to want their QB coach to help the Dolphins QB either. --- We dont know how many clients he had though. Maybe Zach Wilson was his only real client, which makes this an easy move for him
Good point. Yes, he's not working with other NFL QBs now, but he probably has collegiate QBs that he's been working with as well as the pro QBs. Also, even with the other NFL QBs with which he as been working, he probably gave them a plan of things to work on and how to go about it. His underlings could still work with those QBs as long as Beck didn't have any further input or contact with them.
I think having Beck join the coaching staff is more about the offseason. I believe the NFL CBA has strict rules limiting coaches working with players during the offseason (so there are only so many off season practices, etc.). Putting him on staff now allows him to become very familiar with the jets offense and what they're trying to accomplish and the jets training goals for Zack and then, when he's no longer with the jets after the season, then Zack can continue to work him on a regular basis during the off-season.
The Jets org likely had to pay above what market value is for a QB coach to make this work. If true I love what it signals. A NY franchise should be spending lavishly on anything that isn't controlled by the salary cap. Take any edge you can get Woody. Sent from my Pixel 5a using Tapatalk
Outstanding points. This team particularly at the CS level has shown me plenty. The willingness to take responsibility for their mistakes and make much needed adjustments is spot on. The move up to the booth, with Zach there is brilliant.
