His opinion of the Jets is higher than most other public figures. He think Jets have a shot @ 9-10 wins which already seems to isolate him from the masses. His thoughts about pursuing Tebow just for the Wildcat is showing a lack of trust in Sanchez is also legit.
Such irony. It took years for him to grow up and be a leader for the team and do what's best for the team. Jets wouldn't of won SB3 if not for his teammates more-so than Namath himself.
Do you want him to hide under a rock? He does radio/media appearances because he has (and always will have) ties to the Jets. And frankly he's more qualified to talk about them than most of the people who do. Also I think you missed my point. It's not like I think Namath doesn't know his opinion is negative and doesn't want to say it but is being asked so he has to, my point is that he does so in what I consider to be the right time and place (being asked by media). Therefore, to me it's fair criticism by someone who loves the team rather than the bashing it would be if he was just spouting off on his own.
seriously...talk about the pot calling the kettle black...and in fact, even the timing of this statement cries for attention...he had all offseason to do this, but yet he chooses to say it the week leading up to the season?
Namath won and got the headlines....and the ladies and the endorsements etc, etc......and I guess he's still relevent because we are still talking about him!!!!!!!
Wow some of you are insane. First off, Namath brings up a damn valid point. Many of us do feel that way about the Jets lately. Namath's comments are a legitmate criticism. Second, a guy can't have a freakin opinion? Especially a guy who is a legend of this organization and really still takes the time to care about them decades later?? I respect Joe because of that. He doesn't have to give two shits about the Jets anymore but he does.. If he was blasting off about what a terrible organization and terrible fans or something maybe you whiny bitches would have a point. That's not the case he's just concerned with the direction of his favorite team like all of us. Stop being little bitches everytime someone says something that's not crowning the Jets.
So they are more interested in headlines than winning, and yet Namath thinks they will win 9 or 10 games. Which one is it? It's amazing how after one 8-8 season so many people in the media either think/want the Jets to tank.
You guys are unbelievable. It's not like he comes out of the blue. He's a featured guest on ESPN radio every single week and gets asked questions. He's not calling press conferences to put himself on a soap box. And you guys can bullshit all you want but more often than not, he is DEAD ON correct. Not everytime, but most for sure.
Pro Football Hall of Fame Joe Namath. I think I read somewhere that Mr. Namath is still on the payroll of the NY Jets in some capacity. I believe he earned a right to speak his opinion. Suspect this season, the JETS will prove all the professional 'opinions' as not accurate. :jets:
Can I ask you a question? Do you see Joe Montana out there tearing the 49'ers organization apart every opportunity he gets? Do you see Troy Aikman dissing the Cowboys every 5 minutes? Is Jim Kelly calling out the Bills for everything they seem to have done wrong the last 10 years? What is with Joe Namath anyway? Why does this guy feel it's his job to rip his old team apart all the time? I don't see any other big name QB's doing that to their old team do you?
he has had months to make his "statement"...his timing is odd...he preaches about headlines rather than winning which can be argued defines his career, then he goes on and times it perfectly leading up to the season. gimme a break.
So riddle me this. How is Joe Namath's point valid? Fans love to agree with him because he won us a superbowl, but really, what move did the Jets make this year that showed we care about headlines more than wins? I'm just looking for facts, rather than speculation. The only questionable move was Tebow, and considering what he can bring to the team as far as option packages goes, it's quite clear it was for football reasons, and getting him for a 4th is a steal. Sure, ticket sales might be part of it, but nothing sells more tickets than winning a superbowl, so claiming the team only cares about headlines and not winning is completely baseless. He's just echoing what the reporters have been saying about this Tebow drama from the beginning. The truth is, there is no QB drama and Tebow WILL make our WC better. We sucked in WC last year, hence why we rarely even saw it with Kerley. I think people (Namath included) will change their tunes when they see how dynamic our offense is with the Tebow option and decent pass protection. So please demonstrate the validity of Namath's claim. Anybody can talk, but the biggest criticism I have with SOJFs like Namath, is that they don't talk about the football reasons, they just make a claim, assert it as true, then somebody else will back them up and say it's a valid point, without even explaining why.
