If you miss Leon, and actually think he's more than a ST guy, you don't like McKnight. If you don't miss Leon, and completely understand his value, the trade that was made and who was acquired, and how things are being set up long term, you're fine with everything that's going on.
I think they should be kept around for as long as they can contribute. Thomas was drafted when we had Ellis and Abraham only a year ahead of him at DE, but he managed to stay on the team long enough to find a role and eventually succeed. That's where Gholston is going to be after this year. He still has the tools to be a player but he has to find himself a role or he won't be in the league. So I don't think there's a set time limit equivalent to where a guy is drafted, it's up to the guy to make himself a worthwhile part of the team. McKnight will eventually fall into that category as well, regardless of how great an athlete he might be.
Leon probably wouldn't be able to find the field outside of kick returns. Woodhead and Washington both had their shot and couldn't find the field either. This is the LT and Greene show and no other back was/is going to have much of a chance to get on the field this year. I'm also pretty sure that Washington got cut again and the Jets haven't bothered to pick him back up. Must not have been as big a loss as people thought.
1. Educate yourself on why this is happening by reading any Joe McKnight thread 2. Get hit by an ice cream truck
Right, because McKnight is a better player than Woodhead....or years of service matter. That's why Shonne Green did nothing last year as a rookie.
He didn't get an opportunity until one of our top 2 RB's got injured. In other words, you had no idea he was good until he got a chance....let McKnight get his chance next year (since he wasn't drafted to make an immediate impact) then bump this thread if you haven't been banned yet for being one of the most retarded posters on TGG.
Jesus Christ. Woodhead would have been inactive just like McKnight on our roster. WHY THE FUCK CAN'T PEOPLE GET THAT?
Because they don't think. They see Woodhead doing well so they think he'd be doing this on the Jets every week too. If Kevin Faulk didn't get hurt he's still be sitting around on the PS.
Woodhead is a good player, excelling in a different system. He would not have had the opportunity to excel with us. He is better off in NE. We are better off with what we have.
I'm not one of these "we should have kept Woodhead" guys. I know he wouldn't have really worked in this system.... But, at this point I haven't seen anything to convince me otherwise that McKnight is a scrub. I hope to God he's not a bust, but really so far I haven't seen a flicker. I guess all your draft picks can't be home runs.
Be glad he is not needed. But let's hope both he and Ducasse are using this time to learn and develop as both are projects. Revisit this in a year or two to make a fair judgement.
Of course you haven't, there's no room for a 3rd RB on the active roster when we're carrying 2 FB's. Unless we're playing the Bills that is ...
Every team misses on players. The best part about McKnight is that we don't know what he is yet. Its all speculation.
