No they won't, they don't give a shit about Trevor Lawrence. It's their bodies on the line every week playing to win. If management's making 'business decisions' then a lot of players would make business decisions in response and shut it down, it would just be ugly.
I mean you'd think that among other motives, players do care about being on a winning team, and surely they're aware that drafting Lawrence would increase those odds going forward. Now if this is a situation where management is sitting Becton and risking Darnold getting hurt or something like that, then it's different. But doing something like starting a rookie QB over a QB who hasn't been good anyway, or letting young players play over veterans who are better? That isn't affecting their health, and it's making the Jets better going forward.
Yes and again I understand everybody is pissed off right now. The TL sweepstakes is not over and even if it is there are now numerous draft scenarios in play for the Jets including possibly trading down and stocking up on high draft picks over the next couple of years. Sometimes one has to look at the bright side.....
Joe seems to be a man of his word. He’s said on record he believes Sam is the QB of the future for the Jets. We will be building around Sam. Sam needs to look in the mirror in the off season. The 2020 campaign was unacceptable.
Sure, there's still hope in terms of ways the Jets could get good again. But the problem is none of those things are going to happen with this organization.
Can he really have faith in a QB who has regressed from below average to bottom 5? Sam needs a change of scenery at this point.
I don't think he's going to have much of a choice. Darnold, sadly, is our best option at QB for next season.
You think Sam might look a little better throwing to a Jamarr Chase along with better interior line play and a new RB?
Again, the only thing that JD should be "blamed" for is letting Robby walk which he already admitted he underestimated Robby's market.
Darnold might look a little better with a real coach and some better playmakers.....the talent is there. He’s still only 23.....
The problem with him now is the contract. He's going to be a middle-of-the-road QB that, in order to keep, we'll have to shell out a big contract to in a year, or force us to take Justin Fields, a guy who is in no way the answer either.
How happy would you be if that happened, but then word got out (to Manish Mehta of course) that Gase was fired for refusing to tank, and the NFL took away the Jets' top draft pick as punishment? How bad would THAT be?
Going 0-16 and having that permanently tagged on your resume? Fielding the worst team in NFL history? These guys, even though inept, are still professionals. This is their livelihood and they generally only have one shot at it. Do you really think that was what they were striving for? I agree with you that Douglas in all reality should be fired for this train wreck. That would be the case even moreso if we went 0-16, as I know that was never the goal. Fans praising Douglas as if this was some master plan have been driving me crazy honestly.
Justin Fields is over rated - selecting him will set the Jets back even more. Darnold needs a tutor - a mentor - not a phony QB whisperer. The talent is there. And he needs to stay upright. For starters ...
He'll be put to that test cause we're still drafting #2 in a worst case, and people will still pressure him to take Fields.
