Just because NFL teams don't generally do it doesn't mean it's nonsense. The real nonsense is that NFL teams don't do it; it's NFL nonsense, not fan nonsense.
If you're right, then why on Earth do we want him to stay on as GM? Also, sometime around Week 8, he should have changed strategies, but apparently he didn't.
Actually, no, no he can't. As much as JD would love to draft Trevor, he can't order Gase to sit his vets and play his rooks. And Gase is about to be fired, so even the Johnsons couldn't force that to happen. Gase has 100% control over the game day roster, and Gase wasn't looking to go out 0-16.
Congratulations to the players and coaching staff for their first victory. It was well deserved, as they played their asses off! No player or coach goes on the field worrying about who next year's team will draft. If they do, they are losers.
Correct. And by not worrying about who next year's team will draft, Joe Douglas is also a loser. That's why this thread is about criticizing Douglas, not Gase or the players.
Might be time to change your avatar...but then again, the Jags still have the Bears, so maybe you can wait a bit...
Jag's still gotta lose to the Bears, so lets all become Jag fans for a game....we might STILL get Trevor.
Douglas: "Hey Chris Johnson, I need you to let me make Gase start James Morgan so we can get the first pick." If CJ says yes: "Hey Adam, ownership and I are requiring you to start Morgan at QB." If Gase then says yes: "Thanks Adam." If Gase then says no: "Adam, you're fired." If CJ says no: Then any GM who was willing to lock himself into that arrangement for up to 6 years with Adam Gase of all people is an idiot and should therefore be fired.
Yes, that’s how businesses work....and coaches have full authority over playing time that the gm puts on the roster. How do you not know this?
You are correct and while I certainly understand everybody’s “rage” today it is astounding to read posts how today is more disappointing then the 1998 Denver loss.....seriously?? They were 25 minutes away from the SB and would of whipped the Falcons. That’s the closest I’ve ever witnessed them being in the SB.....crazy.
I think he’s done a tremendously awful job this year. I think that should be pretty obvious to anyone. if he was fired it would be warranted, but I don’t see that happening based on the lengthy contract.
And what do you think the rest of the players in the locker room would think about a 'let's play James Morgan for the hell of it' type decision in Week 17? That's why these things just aren't done. The outcry was bad enough when Gregg Williams martyred himself, you'd have an outright mutiny from players we actually need going forward if management openly tanked.
At least then there was hope that the Jets would be a good team going forward and have other chances at the SB. There's nothing now.
Nah it’s fan nonsense. NFL teams are not down with that noise mainly because losing does not beget winning
They'd think the Jets are trying to tank. The players who won't be back next year will be pissed, but who cares about them? As for the players who will be back, some of them will be happy, even though they won't be able to show it.
