I can't say I agree with the whole theory but some of it definitely. I think he knew this was a teardown. I think he thought we'd be better this year. Darnold in his third year would improve. Yes losing Robby hurt but probably undervalued him. He felt the oline and receivers could be replaced. The d played well last year. More or less kept it the same minus Adams. Figured with Desir better than the other cb last year so yes d not as good but component. Where it went wrong. No one likes Gase and he has lost the team. Oline is better than last year but not great. Defense has taken a major step back. WR replacements are not as good and injuries have not helped. So we are now stuck with an awful team and an even worse coach. I do fear if we fire Gase we'll win a game or two and that'll mess up our chance to get Lawerence. Time will tell. If this plan works: 1a. Lawerence 1b. WR Chase if possible 2. Oline guard possibly if they can't sign Thuney. 3. rb, te, wr 3b. rb, te, wr 4-7 whatever we need. Will need some defense. My biggest question is free agency. 1. Who is our coach and what connections does he have to players to bring here? 2. Who after Leveon et al wants to play here?
Just as bad for this franchise as Gase. And as soon as Gase is gone & team still sucks everyone will act like theyve hated JD all along cause we need a new scapegoat. And so on.
I don't agree with complete teardowns or tanks. I think it's bad for building a winning culture and franchise. At the same time, if you're going to do it you need to do it 100% which is what it looks like we're doing rather than floundering at 5-11 and missing out on the top spot. I'm also more OK with it given that there is very little talent on this team that will be here in 2-3 years, and I'm assuming a new coach will be hired with a defined system and approach to bring in the players that they want (and this will align with Douglas's vision). It's an extremely bold move. The Dolphins started the trend last year. Let's see if it works out for them. It's trending in the right direction and they ended up with the player they coveted at the #1 spot deeper in the draft than they wanted to risk.
I wish people would just say foolish or dumb, it isn't any less of an insult by using a posh word You will be fine there then, you got yours in early doors
We will all get there eventually, whether it is now like yourself or in 3 years time when Lawrence is ruined It's great to be a Jets fan
'm pretty lukewarm on JD right now but he does need more time. Gase needs to go ASAP though. my scary thought is we aren't firing gase and building a team they way he wants so we have him 3 more years and he destroys us then him and JD get canned and we do it all over again
We need a pass rusher somewhere in that draft. The Jets get no pressure at all on a QB. There will be no winning around here till that happens.
That's a bold strategy cotton, get rid of all the previous administration's players to tank and divebomb for 0-16 just to prove the sitting coach/GM who put this team together isn't the problem.
That is worst case scenario and we have been through too many of those. No way could they sell the fanbase on Gase staying around.
The best player available has gotten such a bad name around here because it was Maccagnan's tag line. Best player available to help this team in the modern day NFL should be how it reads.
This post is correct. Some of these fringe theories as to Douglas's motivations are getting to be a bit much. I don't think he's done a great job but he definitely needs more time. But either way, sometimes franchises pivot. The trading deadline has been more active as of the last couple years. If someone wants to overpay for one of our guys I'm sure those offers are being fielded as they should be. The seasons over, half the roster is hurt and the NFL is creeping towards being a league of buyers and sellers at the deadline (and the league offices want that to happen). If someone wants to give us a first for Jamison Crowder and a third for Brian Poole (goner at the end of the year), then I sure as hell hope we're going to take that phone call.
At this point the tank is pretty clear...if JD was listening to offers for Adams last year, then I’m SURE he’s all ears this year on anybody there is literally no one untouchable at this point of course the downside to that equation is that there’s really no one worth much...outside of Crowder, Becton, maybe Darnold and maybe Poole...who is worth anything in trade?
We need to revamp both the OL and DL. I believe we are going towards the blueprint of the Titans (which I would love btw). The Titans can impose their will on any team in the league except maybe the Ravens, but we will see. They certainly did it last night against the Bills. The Titans spent a few number one draft picks on the OL and I believe we will also. They also have a beast at RB. Tannehill just becomes more of a game manager, running lots of play action passes. Whether we have Sam or Lawrence, it will take a few years to purge the team of mediocre talent, through bad free agent signings and horrific drafting.
Actually it should be "Best Player Available For The Most Impactful Position". So, for example, if it's clear that Darnold is ruined, the BPA needs to be the Best QB Available. If Darnold is still considered a potential FQB, then I'd say it would be Best WR Available, or possible Best OL Available. After the 1st pick, I'd be looking at the Best Edge Available, along with whatever I didn't take with the 1st pick. And I would almost never consider a DT or Safety or CB with my very first pick. I would trade back rather than use that pick on those positions.
