90% of this Forum wanted us to take Zach (or Justin Fields). Once I knew it wasn't Fields....I wanted to trade with SanFran. It was a disaster.
I've followed him closely ever since he reimbursed Steve Serby of The NYP for his tolls when he bought the team. He's a meddler....is hyper-sensitive to criticism, social media, tabloids, etc. The complete OPPOSITE of folks running the Steelers, Patriots, etc.
I would keep Douglas. We don't need more change. We're NOT getting anybody better. Do you all remember when that hot-shot who we wanted as GM about 10 years ago ditched us for the Jaguars ? He was a flop there...barely in the NFL now. From HOT to NOT.
Meh..Change is good . But Lemme see the list first lol There is absolutely nothing absurdly great abouT GM Douglas : picked Zach picked Saleh and picked up Hassan Reddick Triple feh Positives : maybe Rogers Wilson Sauce and the Defense. ...OL hanging in there Considering we always had front row draft picks who could have done better or worse than average Joe??
It was - I went back to see what I posted at the time and it was basically the same as you "for us to turn down that offer or better it must be because the Jets plan to take a QB they have fallen in love with - probably Wilson (which I don't like but it is what it is)"
being better at drafting than recent Jets GMs is a very low bar as the Jets have been one of the worst drafting teams for a long time - especially in the second round where it was disaster after disaster and almost all our first round picks disappointed.
I'm not fully convinced the grass would be greener in the other side (new GM), but I get that Douglas has screwed up some big things. He has also gotten a lot of talent on the team compared to the past 2 GMs before him
I can't say I've ever been JD's #1 fan or anything close to it. To say the least. With that out of the way he did assemble a insanely talented Jets roster going into this season.
Joe Douglas has shown me some red flags in the past season and a half that would have me wondering with a really good GM. The Reddick deal was just dumb, you don't trade a 3rd round pick to adopt a holdout. His invisible man act in 2023 after that Saleh hit piece was pretty telling, I don't think he even offered a word of support and the article barely mentioned Douglas. I really hope Olu works out but that was a textbook makeup pick and he used it in a premium area of the draft, he used a high first rounder to fix his very public Becton mistake. He will probably slip by another year but the team's record with him as GM should have him under far more scrutiny than he is.
Woody's statement about his rationale for firing Saleh was just as good as an extension for Douglas. He'll be back in 2025. And he'll pick the next coach that will go up on the Jets' Mt. Rushmore of crappy coaches.
His contract is up after this year. He either gets extended or we're hiring some analytics geek in his mid-30's from another team.
Why would he want to come here? He had options last cycle and turned down interview to remain in Detroit. If he didn't go after those opportunities, he's not coming to this dumpster fire.
Somebody else will be willing to pay him a good to great salary that won't come with the ineptitude and dysfunction of this franchise. He's not coming here.
I think we have to accept the hard reality that as long as Woody is the shot caller here, no one with any ability will come here. MAYBE if Woody hires a President of Football Ops and turns over complete control to him, that guy may be able to hire some talent, but those are big question marks. As much as Saleh needed to be fired, this last incident shows how mercurial Woody is. Who would want to work for guy like that? Anyone who's smart sure wouldn't.
