what are you wondering about? The CEO of GM never put aq fender on a car! This guy has worked with WALT MICHAELS! Walt was our former HC and staright shooter! I think the guiy can do the job because he is doing it in Montreal and has found much success!
Since when do the darksiders like anything? That's their mantra, going against whatever decision the FO makes, regardless. If the guy had a lot of success in a similar league, why not consider him?
Excatly. Talent evaluation is generally the same. The CFL may need a different type of player, but there has to be a certain ability to evaluate well and be as succesful as Popp has been. The NFL just requires a shift in the type of players to be evaluated. It's still just football. The fact that he also has coaching experience is a plus.
If this caused Francessa to literally pop, i'd say sign him today.. I like that they are at least considering all angles, and Popp does seem like a viable candidate.
Hasn't korn-ferry gone this route before with great success? And I am sure his abilities translate to the NFL as he obviously has a knack to spot and sign talent with 10 championship appearances.
Something of note regarding Montreal....they have a QB with the all time football passing yds record. That is a big part of the reason for their continued success. Also worthy to note, Popp was a GM when they brought Calvillo over to Montreal in 98 as a FA. Calvillo was primarily a backup on Hamilton to that point. Popp became GM in 96. Also had a couple stretches as HC in 01, 06-07.
What I'm saying is if he can find talent for the CFL, he should be able to find talented players with top picks.
Outside the box thinking isnt a bad thing. And as a Canadian I can first hand say his football success speaks for itself. Montreal has been successful on the level of the Pats, obviously in their respective leagues. Maybe he brings a unique viewpoint and football knowledge that this team needs to turn it around.
Why not? I'm sure that there's so many players put there that if given a chance they'd turn out to be good. If he wants to check under every rock after the draft its a good thing. Maybe we can get a Victor Cruz, or a Arian Foster, or a Cameron Wake.
No offence to fans of the CFL but my understanding is that they tend to take what leftover players the NFL don't want or can't use. What if he sees a guy that is great but in CFL terms. Do you think the best CFL team could hang with the average NFL team? Just asking. Don't watch a lot of CFL games but as stated good QB play is essential considering the 3 downs they get and a much larger field. And a point for a missed FG? But that's beside the point.
