I really need to see how Smith handles being the QB of the defense. I think he can do it well and if that is true the defense will be fine. As much as we all love the way Leonhard plays his skill set isn't particularly hard to replace. The leadership he brings to the table is what desperately needs to be replaced.
I've been following this thread very loosely so I'm not sure if this has been stated yet, but apparently coming out of college, wasn't Smith lauded as a player who wasn't the best physically but a very smart player in general? I think I remember reading an article about him after we drafted him where it stated that his team looked at him as a coach-type on the field or something along those lines.
