Would have taken him during the Gase saga. Not now. Saleh may not be Superman, but let's just try "stability" for a couple more years and see how that goes. When do we vote in the Sean Payton poll?
Agreed.. Saleh and his staff gets '23-24 to get this team into the playoffs or they walk the plank. We don't have another decade for Saleh, LeFleur and his staff to learn how to coach winning football. No More Newbie HC and Staffs.. Woody should have learned his lesson by now..
I just don’t see Harbaugh making the move until next year. He returns his third year QB, most of his roster, has another great recruiting class coming in and OSU loses their veteran QB and top three receivers.
It won't be easy to get him, but it would be nice if the Jets at least tried. Saleh knows he blew it and he can only blame himself if we look elsewhere. If we don't land Harbaugh we can always keep Saleh, no one else would want him.
Sorting out the QB position is a hundred times more important that who is coaching the team (sadly it also seems to be an impossible task for this team) Just couldn't see him working out here (though I understand he interviewed for the Jets job in 2009 before they went with Rex so he was perhaps interested at one point in time!)
Very true but Harbaugh is the best man available to sort out that position, given that he played the position and groomed multiple QBs **really trying not to fall for this dream as I think we don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of landing him**
It is a pretty attractive division. With Brady gone next year, there are no good QBs there, no good teams. And with Jim Harbaugh it will be a stable situation for Carr too...
The Saints also have to cut good players and can’t sign any for another year because of their horrid cap situation.
obviously I know he's an Ex-QB but which QBs did he develop? I know he enjoyed some initial success with Kap but he soon hit a ceiling and was pretty bad once D's figured out how to contain him
Agreed. Douglas + Saleh have next season to get this team back in the playoffs. Steady improvement from year 1 to year 2. Player development is nice so far. Horrendous QB play completely derailed this season. Average QB play has this Jets team at 10 wins and a playoff birth by now. Fully expecting Derek Carr to be in the Green & White next year.
Why does everyone always assume that good coaches have total control of football operations? Why do we assume that we're unique in having a GM and a HC? Most successful coaches either report to the GM or work alongside him and report to a head of football operations. There are exceptions with guys like Parcells, Belichick, Walsh, etc., but they're the exception, not the rule. Jim Harbaugh was never in complete control of the 49ers, so there's no reason to believe that he's going to demand complete control anywhere he goes. Also, for us being the joke of the league and not attracting any good candidates...Saleh was very highly sought after and he took the job here; Bowles was very sought after as well in 2015. We have no real evidence to suggest that respectable coaching candidates are telling the Jets to fuck off. The idea that everybody hates this team and that it's a toxic cesspool is based on the fan base's own frustration and hatred for the team. If Saleh were to get fired, this team is going to be very attractive to coaches; we have an excellent receiving corps, a potential All-Pro running back (so long as he stays healthy), and a talented defense. Yes, we need a QB, but in truth, coaches often want their guy, rather than someone they inherit, in that spot anyway.
Exactly. It blows my mind how many people rag in Woody when the previous owner was so much worse. Firing Carroll and then running to hire Ruch Kotite (after he was just fired) is even worse than the Gase hire.
“Who wants him?” I expected “The Colts” to be an option. Imagine, an ex QB for your team coming back and taking you to the promised land. But totally, if he doesn’t go back to Indy he’s great.
It's funny because the fanbase wanted Idzik gone after 2014 and got their wish with help from billboards. If anything, Woody does pay attention to what fans want. The knock on him is the belief that he's not well connected across the league and therefore has trouble finding the right people to run the organization.
