This whole thread is yet another example of how the world would be a better place without any religion.
If people are hiding behind their screen names, why would you be embarrassed since nobody knows who you are? The nice thing about this thread is that many people are just saying how they feel talking it out like we always do. The only way to get rid of some of our inbred prejudice is to talk it out even if it means getting into the sewer. Plenty of somewhat ugly things have been said but nothing really shocking or anything that should make anyone carry a grudge toward other members. We are all just talking it out formulating opinions and ones that can be changed only if we talk them out. To your point. If you're a religious Jew giving up something for the ability to unburden yourself should be worth doing without making a fuss. If your not a religious Jew you get to make a decision and either feel good about it or be conflicted about it neither which is a bad thing. If you’re not Jewish you have the option of having a little grace to your fellow fans, customers, friends and moving the game without making an issue of it. Jews shouldn’t ask for the game to be moved and live with it either by going to temple or not as their conscience dictates. If you're not Jewish you should basically try to accommodate because it's the decent thing to do and courtesy and decency even on very small matter makes a difference in the quality of life.
Well, that's certainly not true, because people will find a way to fight each other over something else. The world would be a better place, if people would have respect for others, religion or no religion.

How come MLB didn't move game 1 of the Series to accomodate Sandy Koufax? Perhaps because the issue is that he is putting his faith before sporting events. I think we call all learn something from that.
I thought it couldn't be more obvious. I care because I wouldn't be able to watch both the Jets and Giants that day. It's possible I wouldn't watch the Giants that day anyway, but now I don't even have the option. There are Jewish fans all over the country. There are several other teams playing in the afternoon and night that day. Where is the concern for those folks?
If MLB moved the game and Koufax didn’t have the opportunity to put his faith ahead of his professional responsibility would he have been cheated of a moment of reflection and an act that gave a sense of pride to the Jewish community? If so doesn't that argue for the NFL not to move the schedule and create the opportunity for a moment of reflection and commitment or lack there of by Jews who happen to be Jets fans or season ticket holders during the high holy days?
Thank you for taking your HAMMER and hitting my NAIL on the head. And the same goes for Christians on Christmas Day if you are football fans... Or Christians that needed to make the decision to watch the Masters golf tournament on Easter Sunday. Or Muslims to during Ramadan... The paradox is that people of all faiths sometimes need to make difficult choices when confronted with them. If anything, this thread is more an examination of faith for those on all sides. Do I go to church on Sunday or go to the football game? Do I go to temple on Saturday or watch the basketball game? I think the complaints on all sides provide insight and illumination into EVERYONE's real priorities in life.
I couldn't answer you at the time because it would have been improper for me to answer in regard to this topic when wut?, being a greater authority, was in the room. He stated that he was available to all as an Orthodox person, to answer questions and such. I didn't know if he was truly what he claimed to be, so I put a question to him as a "test". Of course, his answer was within the proper realm and at the end, he challenged my authority to judge if his answer is correct or not. And he of course was right to do so. It was entirely the kind of exchange one would expect if he is indeed Orthodox and I am certain he is. Furthermore, another poster confirmed this. This means he is an authority on many Jewish rituals and Rabbinical rulings. He will be a good person to ask about Judaism and I plan on learning from him, although I doubt this particular thread will be the place where I do so. He will not be back until about 8pm tomorrow as the Orthodox would not be on the computer during the Shabbat.

NO WAY!!!! We were just having a good time laughing about all of the dumb things that teachers try to pull over on young kids. EVERY religion has their laughable moments of neurotic teachings & trying to control the minds of students.
The answer is no. Sandy Koufax did something to be proud of. As well, the NFL did something to be proud of. I will remember both actions, and I will say thank you.
