You can argue all day about whether Revis is the best D player in the league. The fact is that he is extremely important to the Jets D, esp. with Rex Ryan's scheme. Having said that, he could be traded for other very valuable players and/or draft picks. I wouldn't want to be Tannenbaum and have to make that decision. Imagine having millions of people watching your every decision, esp. with such a high profile player as Revis. I think Revis is being very greedy and selfish. If he wants to win a SB, he should take his $10s of millions and shut up. I don't feel bad for him. He should try working in an office every day for 5 (or if you're lucky, 6) figures for decades. That's why I don't buy the jerseys or any other team paraphernalia - I would just be making these rich, selfish players more rich. What have they done for you?
and a strong secondary helps your pass rush. The Giants have a million pass rushers which makes it impossible to stop them all, the Jets have one great corner and yet we still have success on D(and a better D than the Gaints until all their pass rushers were healthy- I wonder why that was?)
I realize that being a Pats fan AND living in Texas doesn't exactly imply a high IQ, but jesus, this post is just asinine.
I am a HUGE Revis fan. If he is asking for money already, again, it's time to say good bye. (or please cut Holmes and give Revis all of Holmes money)
I agree with everything you are saying about Revis. My point, however, is the CB position is not a premium defensive position as a NT, DE or OLB. That's not a knock on Revis, it's just a fact of life in the NFL.
No they wouldn't. They just won the friggn' Super Bowl with dominating DLine play and a very mediocre secondary. No team needs an elite CB if the DLine can dominate the LOS and get after the QB. The Giants just proved that.
yes b/c they had THREE elite pass rushers, imagine "only" 2 and a shut down corner like revis? that D would have been unstoppable. if JPP was their only pass rusher then I'd agree. How good was that D during the season when osi and Tuck were in and out of the lineup and JPP was great? not very good.
I agree. I just thought you were responding to the comment of Revis being the best by saying would a trade with revis and player x not happening proves Revis isn't that good. I get what you are saying now. The trade just made me confused because it takes into account a lot of non skill/talent things like impact of position, age, contract, injuries, etc etc
If only they could cut Holmes, instead they let another 11 million guarantee over the winter so now if they were to cut him they would still have 20 million in dead money to account for..thank the illustrious capologist for that one too.
Just so you are clear, I think Revis is the best cover CB since Dieon Sanders. He is phenominal at the position he plays.
Are things in the sports world really this slow that a pre-emptive contract holdout is being fabricated by the media? Do people not remember that if Revis misses training camp over a contract dispute it fires off a clause in his contract in which he's stuck on the Jets for an additional 3 years? I'm guessing Revis is not the kind of player ( $$ or not ) that will chose to sit out for the remaining 4 years of his prime. "It included two significant clauses: The Jets can't exercise the franchise tag after the 2013 season. As a holdout deterrent, the contract extends by three years (through 2016) if Revis skips training camp." - ESPN 'Darrelle Revis dances around holdout' ( sorry can't link )
Do we trade for samuel in case revis does hold out we still have cro, wilson, and samuel and let revis sit
That whole Samuel thing is pretty funny. No way they can trade him as they only want a 6th or 7th and nobody is biting. Not sure what the hit will be if they cut him.
We can't fit Samuel and samuel is older. Can't really allocate all the money to just Revis..we need a pass rusher..the Patriots had a garbage secondary and the Giants were poor to mediocre and they were in the super bowl. Don't overvalue a cornerback....I'd much rather have a JPP or Ware.
The Eagles are talking to several teams, one of which is the Falcons, a league source told NFL Network's Michael Lombardi on Tuesday. The key is Samuels must take a reduction in his deal, the source told Lombard on nfl.com if he does take a reduction and we give up a free 6th we got why not that is great if revis holds outs and if revis plays then hell we can run 4 cbs all game!
Everybody remembers that but what if he goes to camp and then holds out when the season starts? Not the smartest thing risking injury like that but I doubt it would stop him. Even if he did get hurt he could just postpone his holdout until next year.
We have two corners who should be capable of starting aside from Revis. We'll need a nickelback when Revis goes.
didn't revis make $16.5 million a year the past 2 seasons and is now going to make only $6 million a year for the next 2 years? i don't understand your $11 million in 2012. i thought the reason he's thinking about holding out is because he's going to be making $6 million a year for the next 2 seasons, hense why the holdout. someone correct me if i'm wrong. i don't think revis holds any loyalty to the jets or the remaining contract. i'm betting he holds out and is too big to play for a measily $6 million a year! jets are between rocks and damned!
nyjetscap.com on the situation: http://nyjetscap.com/2012_Articles/reviscontract12.php Looks like if he holds out, his contract is 7 years, if he does not it voids after 4. So according to nyjetscap, renegotiation will likely occur during summer of 2013 if Revis does not hold out
