Hold his feet to the fire for the next 2 years then wave good by.

That give Rex a 2 year window to get 'er done with Darelle Revis in the backfield. If it don't happen by then, it probably never will.

If Revis Christ holds out due to the low salary over the next 2 years, then we own him for the next 5 years by default. If he refuses to play, spend the money elsewhere and let him rot on his couch. At least he won't be playing for NE, or anyone else.

In any event look for Rex to keep drafting corners to hedge his bet either way.

If Revis really forces the Jets hand this time they at least have two guys capable of starting on the roster in Cromartie and Wilson. That'll change the dynamics some in their favor as they can just soft-pedal the situation in camp and give Wilson a lot of reps that they really need to give him anyway at this point.

The Jets know that if Revis holds out he probably isn't going to be worth a lot to them until he's had a solid month of conditioning in the team facilities. They'll want to avoid a repeat of the Revis hamstring issues that occurred last time so they'll just keep playing Wilson as the second CB until Revis has been back awhile.

It really is a different situation than last time. The Jets don't even have to threaten to toll over the contract if Revis stays out. By the time he is free this time he'll be 31 years old and will have missed probably $60 million in potential earnings.

I actually think we could survive without the guy so long as a passrush becomes existant.

Darrelle Revis won't rule out holding out for a new contract

[ Two years after signing the deal that ended his training-camp holdout in 2010, Jets cornerback Darelle Revis did not rule out holding out this year for a new deal accoridng to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.

"I just don’t know. I'm not saying I am going to hold out; I'm not saying I'm not going to hold out," Revis said tonight,...]

It looks like he is going to play games again. I say let him hold out and after two years of not seeing the field when he is older and slower, let's see what deal he is offered.

He is quickly becoming one of my least favorite players. He is already thinking about it and what he should realize is the contract price on CBs has dropped a lot since that deal was made. He is the highest paid CB in the NFL and just because the Bills were stupid and overpaid a defensive player does not mean the Jets should.

Lets trade this SOB. He needs to realize when hes playing in Jacksonville or Minnesota, no one will give 2 shits about him and he wont be on commercials and he wont be getting endorsements from anyone. Id much rather get a 1st rounder for him and not have to deal wtih him ever again.

Yeah this exactly, unlike last time, we have 2 decent CBs. Last time we didnt have that 2nd CB to fill in for him, now we do. So he can holdout and lose money, hopefully the Jets dont give in and let his ass rot until he gives in.

    sounds good to me

Like I said before, let Revis sit out the whole year and see how much he misses the game. If he gonna be this selfish I dont want him. dont care how good he is. If the Jets can trade him for a 1st rounder this year or next I would take it for sure. Let him go play for some shit team like Jax or Minnesota who would be the only teams willing to pay him that kind of dough. Shit lets trade him to the Browns for the 3rd pick this year and scoop up Trent Richardson or Blackmon. Or shit let Rex dump him on to his brother in Dallas for their 1st rounder. Whatever happens I really hope the Jets dont take up all their cap space and pay this doush nozzle. Revis used to be my favorite player but he is really starting to turn into a dick and a huge burden for the Jets.

He's just an idiot when he's on the record. He could simply have said "I'm not going to talk about my contract situation" and it'd be over with.

He's not going to hold out because he doesn't know what will happen if he takes that path. Last time he was pretty sure the Jets would fold because he was coming off one of the great seasons by a CB ever and his salary and cap numbers were low enough that the Jets could afford to redo his deal even if they didn't want to.

This time if the Jets don't fold he's really stuck. If they really can't trade him because of the cap situation and they can't extend him in a way that dramatically ups his money for the next couple of years for the same reason then what does he do? Sit in PA waiting for a miracle?

wasn't there a no hold out clause in his revised contract? And I also thought the new CBA is not as friendly with players holding out. That contract was suppose to be a bandaid. pay the man, if you cant afford him trade or let him go

^No there was no such clause and even two years ago when he signed it was speculated we would revisit the situation.

He's clearly the best CB in the NFL but is paid akin to Asomugha who has begun to decline. He therefore has the leverage he needs as he wants to be paid according to his market value and that is top at his position. Jets brass will have to decide if it's worth paying Revis a giant pile of cash to erase one WR per play or pay two solid players with that cap space.

He won't hold out this year, but next year it could get ugly.

Next year we need to trade him before he holds out.

I actually think the opposite. I say prior to next year we should put together an extension. A worthy extension and not one that will just drag it all out like the last time.

    There absolutely was a clause.

"It was a one-year extension as part of a new, four-year, $46 million contract. It included two significant clauses: The Jets can't exercise the franchise tag after the 2013 season. As a holdout deterrent, the contract extends by three years (through 2016) if Revis skips training camp."

And that extension is for less money then he will make now.

Of course he could go to OTAs and camp and then start holding out when the season starts but that can be a dangerous thing to do.

I came here to ask this question...... The ##### Media??????

    I HATE THE MEDIA!!!!!!

    WTF???

They Pepper the Front office with questions then - THE JETS WON"T COMMENT!!!!!!

They know ####, for all we know a deal could be in the works - Teams don't and can't tell the media every detail.....

Then they pepper Revis - "WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO NOW?? HUH ??? WHAT ??? JETS ARE DISRESPECTING YOU!!!!"

Another theory is that Revis' camp is the one who fired up the media to start it off.....

The Jets can't afford to cut Revis either. He's really stuck here until at least 2013.

I don't think that matters. If he wants to hold out he'll hold out. If the Jets budge and give him a new contract that clause is obviously in the old contract. If they budge and trade him, his new team will have to work out a deal with him and certainly won't try to play hard ball with those cheap additional years.

The only way Revis would lose in that scenario is if the Jets simply refuse to do anything and let him rot in his holdout and retire. That scenario doesn't make sense for the Jets though as they have a valuable trade chip they could use instead.
