it's not write two make a thread title suggesting they're is actually knews when your just sharing an opinion.
From what I've read this can't happen. Even if Harvin is cut then resigns at a better price, we are still on the hook for the pick. That being said, I don't see us cutting Percy when we are a team starving for an offensive playmaker, which he certainly is.
What's good is we don't have to make a decision on Harvin until at least a week into free agency. We can hold on to him while all the big contracts are handed out and then tell him look, either take the number we are offering or try to find a better deal on the market 10 days after its already opened and teams have signed their big money guys. Kind of a dick move, but Harvin for say, $5 mil a year is worth the 4th to me.
Harvin is non-guaranteed. He's one of the last players in the NFL playing purely for his salary. It's possible he's not worth the cost however the Jets need to take a hard look at their roster before they let him go. He's not easily replaceable in the type of role he performs. C.J. Spiller is not going to come cheap, despite lots of speculation to the contrary. His agent will find somebody willing to give him some real guaranteed money and that's where he's going.
There's really not much competition between Kerly and Harvin simply bc Harvin does not see himself as a chain moving slot guy. While scat back slash slot guy may be where he's most dangerous, WR scoring crazy TDs is what he wants to be. And if Percy ain't happy, ain't nobody be happy.
This is the big question. If Harvin wants to go outside as a WR and play just that role then you cut him. He's likely to be a slightly better version of Devin Hester in that role and certainly not a $10M a year guy. If he's willing to play the slash then he's worth the money given his return ability as well.
Even if we couldnt get DT, Dez or Cobb( which is likely) i wouldnt bring percy back at 10.5 mil. Sign a cheaper option and draft someone in round 2. DGB, Strong and Coates all have #1 potential and a corw of one of those guys, decker, shorts(for example) and kerley is a solid 1-4 If percy wants to restructure then they wouldnt have to sign shorts, but id still like to see a WR drafted early
Awsome thread title!! "Jets Will Probably Cut Harvin!!!!"(speculation) lol wtf .I think we are gonna try to get him to take a pay cut somewhere around 7mill instead of 10 if not he's gone
Cant believe all the butt hurt people because of a thread title lol The belief is that the Jets will cut Percy Harvin prior to March 19 (when the Jets will have to give up a fourth-round pick). - Rich Cimini, ESPN Cimini is a bit of a douch but his "speculation" is warrented given he will cost us a 4th rounder and $10+ mil in cap space...
Again, like I said in my previous post, the part that's being left out of all of this is the other half of what Cimini said... the fact that we can keep him from negotiating with any other teams until 9 days into free agency. By that point, no big contracts are being handed out. That's leveragae for us; he either risks getting squat or he takes what we give him. He has no other choice.
They might offer him a lesser deal and still give up the 4th rounder. If they cut him don't they still have to give up a 6th round pick.
I'm sorry that is the wrong thing to do. You either cut him before the FA starts or work something out. I know it a business but it not fair to a player to cut him a week into FA.
Before doing anything I would certainly talk to Harvin first about a renegotiation of his salary, and sooner than later. The ball is in the Jets' court on that, I think.
I watched Percy last year and expected to see some plays that knocked my socks off. I didn't. Based on that sample, I do not want to lay out 10.5.
I am OK with cutting him. The question is who do you draft or bring in who can go beast mode at the other WR spots to go with Decker.
