It's always easy to be optimistic now...but I just don't want to see all my hopes dashed again in the opening weeks. And like Royal Tee said, let's not jinx anything.
Yea, the Jets are going to make the playoffs next year and I am going too bang Magen Fox while Paris Hilton licks my ass. It's not going too happen for atleast 2 to 3 years.
I'm not sure I'd want Paris Hilton licking my ass...or anyone licking my ass for that matter, but whatever. I don't think you can say for sure that we won't make the playoffs for at least 2 or 3 years. You never know in the NFL these days. There's always a seemingly shit team that somehow puts up a respectable season. I think it's just that so much of it is about injuries and luck. If you can remain healthy and win a few close games, then you have a good chance of playing in the post season.
This is a stupid thread what is it supposed to achieve??? Why wont some really stupid people be content with reading others posts. Run N Gun im sure you have posted this more than once as well as your other 10+ 'Vince Young is the best' threads. Please stop creating threads
Relax babyboy, its just a thread, something to talk about before the draft, there really is nothing else to talk about, but mock drafts, now mock drafts are stupid, they get tiresome and boring, but believing in your team is not stupid...
Threads like this is why coaches don't last in NY and Cowher was able to last so long in Pittsburgh. Patience--or lack of it by the fans and media. Mangini's done a very nice job so far in starting to rebuild. What's the reaction here? We're playoff bound! There will be lots of new faces on the 2006 Jets that have to learn to play together as units. That team will be run by a head coach who's never run an entire team before. To "help" Mangini with his inexperience on offense, an offensive coordinator with no experience in the position was brought in but...We're playoff bound! Knowledgeable Jets fans know that this is a two to three year process and the only important thing to look for is that the team is playing better at the end of this season than at the beginning. The moves made by the Jets so far are the solid, yet unspectacular type that winning organizations like Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and New England make. It takes time and as long as the team drafts well and continues to make progress, there's no reason that a consistent winner that can be a top team for years can't be built.
Wow. I was a sunshiner last yeaar, but that taught me a tough lesson. It seems like Herm left behind some of that Kool-Aid though. Guys, we are looking at MAYBE 4 wins next year. The AFC East is still a tough division. Buffalo is our best chance of divisional wins. The Pats are still tough, and Miami got significantly better beginning late in the season last year. My picks: @Tenn - Loss NE - Loss @Buff - Win Indy - Loss @Jack - Loss Mia - Loss Det - (Up for grabs, depends on the progress of the offense with the new QB situation. I'm leaning towards loss.) @Cle - Loss @NE - Loss Chi - Loss Hou - Win (Depends on the progess of the offense.) @GB - (Another one that could go either way. Mostly depends on Favre's return, and their RB situation. I'm leaning towards loss.) Buff - Win @Minn - Win (I am leaning towards win, but this could go either way.) @Mia - Loss Oak - Win Best case scenario, even if we win the ones I am on the fence with, is 7 wins. Look, I would love to go 10-6, win the division, and at least one playoff game, but it is really far from possibility this year. Just a few weeks ago we were all talking about rebuilding. Now, we made a couple of moves, signed a couple of vets, and now we are all of a sudden playoff contenders? I'd love the Jets to go to the playoffs, but it's unrealistic. BTW: Could people please stop with the strength of schedule argument? It doesn't really exist anymore. A few years ago, the NFL moved to creating schedules based on a revolving process. Each division plays their own rivals the normal two times, but then the division also plays two other divisions. This year the AFCE drew the NFCN, and the AFCS. There is no real schedule benefit to losing teams anymore.
We knew because Fabini sucked the year before and we let K-Mac go. It was very obvious before the draft last year that our OL was in big trouble and it was all over the board. Not taking 1 OL men in the draft was grounds for Bradway and Herm getting the door.
Well said. I dont care if we make the playoffs next as long as we improve and look towards a long term goal of winning a super bowl or maybe 2. Great teams are not built in 1 season even in todays nfl esp when your team is a mess
IMO... It's not VERY far-fetched to say playoffs...but we're in the AFC here. This is a place where you need to be 10-6 to make the playoffs. If we were in the NFC, we might be able to go 8-8 and make it in. It's just bad luck, that's all. HOWEVER, yes we have been making good moves, but if the season started today, we'd only be about...a 6-10 team. The draft could bump us up to an 8-8 team if it's a good draft.
I think buffalo sucks too!!!! I some how hope we can beat the pats once. They have moved back and we have hit bottem and are on our way back up. I think about 6-7 wins is reasonable.
Man oh man...put a disclaimer on a post like this..Im eating my late breakfast and have to read this? The fooled me last year...hopefully...they will fool me this year. If you go by what EM/MT have done so far this year...they havent signed a star (which is a good thing..dont get me wrong) but the body language of the signings either spells "stop gap" or "genius". Have to go with "stop gap" except for the signing of Dyson. If they draft a QB with the fourth pick...they will easily be spelling out for us that this will be taking a couple years at least. You brought in Ramsey and resigned Chad to send what kind of signals? If the Jets draft a qb....one of those other two guys will be cut. Dont see that happening...and I dont see Chad or Ramsey being a third string QB.
The Jets will win more than 4 games next year. They began to heat up at the end of last season with Bollinger passing the ball and Herm sticking to his anti-"play the youth" guns. The Jets have only had one major downgrade from the end of last seasons roster to this one (John Abraham), and we haven't even had the draft yet. Check out the starting roster of the Jets in week 17, who put up a hell of a fight against a team who sucked last year because of underachieving, rather than injuries. Next to that, I will list the starters going into next season without even having accounted for the draft yet... Position - 2005 End of Season - 2006 Start of Season QB - Bollinger - Pennington/Ramsey HB - Houston - Martin FB - Sowell - Askew WR - Coles - Coles WR - McCareins - McCareins (not injured) TE - Jolley - Baker LT - Jones - Jones LG - Goodwin - Kendall C - Kendall - Teague RG - Moore - Moore RT - Gragg - Clement/Cavka DE - Abraham - Von Oehloffen (or however you spell it) NT - Pouha - Robertson DT - Reed - none (switch to 3-4) DE - Thomas - Ellis OLB - Brown - Thomas MLB - Vilma - Vilma ILB - none - Barton OLB - Hobson - Hobson CB - Law - Dyson CB - Barrett - Barrett FS - Coleman - Coleman SS - Rhodes - Rhodes The point is, we haven't significantly improved, but we sure as hell have not gotten worse. Combine a healthy team, returning players, and a new coaching staff which spark this young team, as well as a slew of draft picks, including 5 first day picks... you're looking at a very talented, very young team, which will make strides next year. I would bet they probably go 8-8, and look primed going into 2007.
I say we do better than MOST think (around the NFL) ... I look forward to 2007 for a more realistic push
I like the enthusiam and optimism. I wish I could go into the season with that kind of attitude, but I don't think it is very realistic. The QB situation is up in the air, and who knows how Martin will be. The O-Line is still in shambles, which will be addressed by the draft. However, there will be many new faces on the O-Line. The line will need to develop chemistry. And with that many new faces, it is going to take the line a year, or year and a half, to gel. There is going to be ALOT of growing pains. There are going to be a lot of new faces and rookies on the roster. It is going to take time. Not to mention a completely new CS, and young HC. Next year I see a 6-8 win season (depending on how a few close games fall). If they get lucky, MAYBE, MAYBE a 9 win season. But I don't see playoffs next year. In 2 years? Definitely.
