Do you have any useful insight rolling around in that empty head of yours or are you just here for the free cheese?
I hope we do get Cutler. Out of all three (Cutler, Leinart, Young) he'll turn out to be the best NFL QB. IMO!
Not sure if the Jets have plans to somehow get Cutler...but I really wouldnt read too much into Woody being anywhere EM/MT ask him to be for many reasons...smoke screen being the first thought that comes to mind. If Mario Williams is taken before the fourth pick...I can easily see the Jets taking Ferguson...or trading down. As positive as I felt about the Jets never taking Leinart though....Im just getting the vibe that this new regime is definitely taking him now. Listening to Leinart today on the Michael Kay show...this guy sold me on what it takes for a QB to play in NY. Im not completely sold on his overall talent...playing on a team where they are better at every position is pretty tough to judge. This kid will never be a headcase...and nothing that NY will ever throw at him will alter his confidence in anyway. Talent wise...who knows...but this kid is no Manning (either one) or any QB that ended up being a bust drafted early when it comes to his total confidence in his ability...hes almost...almost arrogant...and thats a good thing. I mention the Mannings not for being busts...but having that deer in the headlight look when crap goes sour. Just get the feeling the EM/MT think this guy could come in from day 1 and start to run this team. Kind of hope Im wrong....major 1st round QBPHOBIA that I will never get over but he sold me today.
There are two players I don't want and No. 1 is Leinart because the pro's I respect say he doesn't have an NFL arm. That eliminates him from being great unless we have superior talent at every skill position and we don't and won't for a few years at best if ever. D'Brick I believe is a reach at 4 and I would prefer we not do it because the rumor of taking D'Brick and trading up to take Cutler makes less sense to me than taking Cutler at 4 or trading down a couple of spots and having the extra picks to build the middle of the OL with. I like taking Cutler because we need a QB desperately. However trading up to get him without using our 4 to get a serious playmaker seems insane to me. I would much prefer we trade down a couple of spots and pick him up with our first pick and hang on to all of our other spots. If Young goes to TN, Cutler will probably be rated higher than Leinart by several teams. We need to play this right or we will lose him. The other move if Young falls and Oakland wants him is to take Young and force Oakland to take Cutler and swap plus a player or a pick.
You don't force Al Davis to do anything. If we take Young and think that we can get Oak to do something we are dumb they will just pick someone else.
They need a QB and want Young. They would trade up with us in a heartbeat if TN doesn't take Young unless they feel we won't take him and he will drop to them. I personally would love to take Young if he fell to us but if we like Cutler better and Al likes Young we probably could work out a deal with Al to swap Young for Cutler and a pick. We might be able to do the same thing with Leinart if Al likes Leinart better than Cutler. My guess is Cutler is higher on everyone?s board right now than Leinart but you don't know until you ask? You're right though force is the wrong word, let?s just say we can help facilitate him getting what he wants.
You are correct sir. I believe he was head of scouting or player personnel. He was a key contributor to the Jets draft the year we picked Browning Nagle after Atlanta jumped over us and took Favre .. ah what could have been. An article exists in some NY area paper about Tanny and Mangini going to FL and meeting with Wolf about this years draft. The possibility of the FO viewing Cutler as another Favre intrigues me, plus the Woody trip to meet with him. When the media jumped on that fact, the FO downplayed it BUT also of note is the fact that every other Top player but Mario and Cutler has made comments about being a NY Jets pick. SMOKESCREEN
If you're right, I'll give you huge props. But I think you're dead wrong. The FO has done such a good job of confusing the hell out of everyone (media, analysts, and fans alike) that I think this is just another ridiculous concept that they're throwing out there to confuse everyone. One day you here from an "inside" source: They love Leinart, Leinart's their guy. Then you here: they're enamored with Cutler. Then you here: They love Vernon Davis. Then you here: they're taking Ferguson. Who knows what the truth is. That's why this FO is doing a FANTASTIC job with the draft this year -- up until the draft that is. I'm amped to see who they pick, but I don't think it's going to be Cutler -- I'm thinking Croyle or Clemens.
I personally would prefer your scenario. I think that Croyle and Clemens much closer talent and ability-wise to the Big 3 than we are being led to believe. It seems as time goes on before the draft more downside is found with the sexy picks and more value is found in the next tier players. You have to figure that whoever we take at QB will be holding a clipboard this season anyway. After a year of development and a pro QB coach in the mix like our new OC Shotty Croyle or Clemens could be right on par with Leinart or Cutler, obvioulsly they are not the athlete Young is ... But my gut tells me that, as savy as they have been, they want to make a statement. That statment ... New Regime = New QB. I do not in anyway discount your opinion, I know they will leave this draft with a QB and I think plan B will be one of those second tier QBs.
Well... I'de like to see them take Cutler at 4. If you think he is the be qb of the bunch, and you need a qb, why risk loosing him? Do you build a team around a qb, or a lt? Yeah, yeah, i know... how is he going to throw the ball on his back... well there are still some quality oline available in the later rounds... d'brick is not the only olineman in the draft!!!!
