Some teams might take a different approach as in the past. Rest some guys, not all. Since they won't get the bye, maybe rest them these next 2 weeks and play their starters for most of week 17 to get them going again. I DO realize the norm is to rest starters at week 17, Colts started earlier than that last year though for example.
Last week it was win and have 8 million random things happen. Funny how one week can change everything in the NFL.
I typically refrain from correcting people because I am far from perfect....but man this sentence is a mess.
Im pretty sure you're right. I think the jets are in the same situation as the ravens. The only way to clinch is to win. A loss by either of our teams along with a loss to ind or jax still leaves either sd or kc in the running for a wildcard spot.
That was my point. If the Bears win, they're locked into a playoff slot, and all they can do is tinker with their first round opponent.
They have the chance for a bye (difference between #2 and #3), so I think they'll be playing for something no matter what.
the absolute best part of any playoff scenario is that we are in control! every other team could win 100-0 the rest of the way and it won't matter as long a we take care of our own business. it sucks if we have to win AND teams x y z have to lose for us to get in. we need NO help from anyone.
They would still be playing for the bye remember they beat the Eagles so they have the tiebreaker, they will come at us 100% no matter the outcome tonight
Was just about to type 1 and 3. 3 is a double-win-win because it makes Oakland's first round pick worse.
Probably, but they have come much closer than many teams on numerous occassions than many teams. I think it was in 08 or maybe 09 when McKelvin fumbled a kickoff in the final seconds to hand Patriots their first victory of the season. Even this year the Bills gave them a run for their money. Divisional games are never a gimme and I'm not expecting a blow out in wk 17 either.
I've been playing with the ESPN predictor thing and even with the Jets losing out and Indy, SD, KC and Jax winning out we still make it. Obviously there must be some other results that affect strength of victory, but they aren't with our wins, because I set as many of our beaten opponents to lose as possible and we still got in. Anyone found the scenario that sees us miss out?
Wait so the Chargers cant get the wild card now?!? I knew it came down to strenght of victory, and that victory over the Steelers must have pust us over. whoooooooooo!
The only way the Jets miss the playoffs is if the Jets go 0-2.. the Jaguars and Colts go 2-0 * 6th Seed - Jacksonville Wins tie break over NY Jets based on best win percentage in common games. But lets just get the win on Sunday!
I just played with the yahoo playoff generator. It looks like you're right. The only scenario that I could find where the jets miss the playoffs is losing the last two games and the chargers win the division meaning they won out and KC lost at least one.
I heard the Chargers strengh of schedule would be like 427 % and we would be 419% which would put the Chargers over us. I'm not sure if that was correct though. I think the NFL releases the clinching scenarios each week. Lets see what they say. I don't have the time to figure out strength of schedule...
not according to the playoff generator (which I don't know how accurate it is), but they still have you getting in even if this happens. With the jets having tiebreaker over jax edit* actually you're partially right. If chargers win the division you're out..KC wins division you're in. This is confusing as hell. Win for either the jets or ravens and they're in...that's all im concerned about this week.
