Smh watching Chandler Jones right now being interviewing by ESPN fo MNF. Leads the league with 10.5 sacks, I was so pissed when we choose another lineman in Couples instead of him a pure rush 34OLB in the 1st round followed by that we chose Stephen Hill instead of who I wanted again Alshon Jeffery. I said it then and im saying it now, what horrible drafting weve done iver the years, please let Mac and Bowles be better then the previous regime

Jets have just been abysmal forever at the draft. It's really the story of the franchise. Never enough talent on hand.

i cant say i am disappointed in this. better to move on than to simply keep the status quo. and every single guy in that locker room should know that their job is not safe if they play like horseshit. and lets face it some of these guys are better gone than they are to have around.

I guess you can blame Tanny and Rex for the pick, but I don't dislike the player as much as I dislike how he was used. He was never put in a position to succeed for the Jets. He was a 4-3 end who couldn't transition into being a 3-4 outside backer. His first season with the Jets (when he played with his hand in the dirt) was actually pretty good. The development of Richardson really hurt him IMO.

I cant be the only one that thought it was weird that this injury just popped up the week he got benched.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Bowles tried Coples out at edge rusher in practice before deciding to cut the former first rounder. He didn't just decide to keep him out of position because the previous regime did.

This just in...Bowles read this thread and said "I didn't even think that this guy was out of position until I saw all the talent evaluator's opinions on where he should have played."

he lost snaps to ledger friggin double because coples didn't have speed….ledger douzable is even fatter and out of place then coples was…..for a guy who was out of place had 6.5 sacks last year, it took them 10 weeks to figure out that they didn't like him….im sure the lions, colts, cowboys, cardinals, 49er's, chiefs…all teams that need a 5 technique or a dt would have giviin up a pick for him

Coples 2016 salary was guaranteed for injury. If the Jets IR'd him with a phantom injury or a real one they would run the risk of having that salary guaranteed next year. They obviously weren't going to pay him $7.8 million to sit on the bench and risk an injury in practice for a guy not playing this year and not in the plans next year.

Teams have insurance for those injury settlements. So unless it would count against the cap it doesnt make much sense. If it doesnt they still could've released him prior to the start of the next league year. Which is around March 15th if I remember correctly.

To go from having him active , although not playing many snaps , to outright releasing him just reeks of a desperation move. No one in that locker room is shaking in their boots over this. And that is why this move was made , not because of him maybe getting hurt in the next 6 games.

It would count against the cap, that is why they did it. If they couldn't trade him before the deadline and they decided they weren't keeping him around next year, the move makes sense to cut their losses now and not run the risk of guaranteeing the salary next year.

2000 is the only year when we really ran away with the draft, getting John Abraham, Shaun Ellis, Chad Pennington, Laveranues Coles, and Anthony Becht. Of course, Terry Bradway and Mike Tannenbaum completely dismantled this very talented team within about 3 years. Bradway was the most embarrassing GM we had: Trading a 1st round pick for a back up tight end and using the 2nd round pick to draft a kicker, all in the same year. Then Tannenbaum spent most of his time trading draft picks for has-beens, and drafting guys that neither filled needed positions or were the best players available. I just don't get it. The Patriots, Steelers, and Giants could find an All Pro by scouting an intermural flag football game, whereas if the Jets went back in time and drafted Joe Montana, he would still be a bust for them.

'Skins are in the same predicament with RG3. He has a huge guarantee for injury next season, and is currently sitting on IR. Many ppl think RG3 will simply 'fail to heal', leaving the 'Skins owing him mega bucks. Macc simply wasn't taking that chance on Coples.

smh. he didn't get a fair chance IMO just another waste of a pic going by BPA. i think he will be successful on a team that utilize him correctly

Tannenbuam had some really good players drafted, Revis, Mangold, Harris, Wilkerson and Brick come to mind. He also drafted some decent role players. Guys like Cotchery, Kerley and Powell. I'd even through Slausen in that decent role player category.

That being said we have not drafted an offensive playmaker since Santana Moss in 2001, that's pretty disgusting. The drafts under Herm were atrocious and the Parcells drafts... yikes.

Ironically I went through some of the Jets drafts and probably the best draft they've ever had was 1977 when they drafted Marvin Powell, Wesley Walker, Dan Alexander and Scott Dierking. Even then Klecko and Alexander were mid to late round picks. Alexander might not have even have been drafted in 2015
