That's a pathetic cop out & you know it. Give me a break. You want to debate over how the Jets draft..go for it..but this is just typical garbage. No surprise actually.
This again is what I'm referring too, that all Pats fans seem to fall back on. Great drafts don't necessarily equal great seasons. It's a sufficient trait, but not a necessary one. That doesn't change the fact that the Jets have drafted well recently, and the Pats haven't. Simple as that. Would I rather be in the SB? Absolutely. The original premise still stands though. It amazes me that Pats fans can't get over that. It's like they refuse to accept that the Jets could be better in any one facet of football, and if they are it's somehow turned around on us and deemed as a negative.
Belichick has had some colossal 2nd & 3rd round busts - at least 5 or 6 I can think of in 10 years. But his 1sts have been very good, he's done well in the lower rounds and with undrafted's, and he's repeatedly traded for additional 1st and 2nd rounders and sort of dominates the news each draft because of that. I think that Kiper has given up nailing him because of the team's overall success and because of how well some of the less heralded choices have done. When the Pats drafted the unknown Wilson in the middle of the 2nd round Friday, Kiper just tossed his pencil like wtf? but would only say "I didn't have him that high, but let's wait and see" or something like that. In past years he would have gone on a 3 minute rant. In this draft Belichick made a few deft moves I thought - traded up 6 places with each of his 1st round selections to get Chandler and Hightower, leaving him with only 4 choices total - but then traded down twice to get back up to 7 picks and was able to get Dennard in round 7 who has 2nd-3rd round talent.
absolutely 100%, do I think he's better than all of those guys? No but I wouldn't take guys like Rivers over him. A guy who is perceived as a great QB yets w/ more talent and a weaker division he can't win when it matters most. People forget all that Sanchez has done b/c of the poor ending to 2011. You don't win in this league w/ poor QB play. There are only a handful of guys I'd rather have than our current QB.
Bellifag? LOL. You're right, we'll see if both coaches are capable of getting these guys ready for the NFL. I like Ryan as a coach in some ways, I like his bravado and style and there's no question he's an excellent defensive minded coach but I'll still take Bellifags abilities over Ryans over all any day of the week. Ryan did great his first two years but the Jets fell apart internally and Ryan has to take a lot of blame for that. Belichick took a defense with half scrubs and got them good enough to get to the SB. He'll cut players that don't buy into the program even if in the short term it creates problems. Sure, both are capable of taking these guys tot the next level but still I feel more confident about Bellifags abilities there then Rexxy.
That B- came from waltfootball I am betting, as whether you like him or not he does tend to give his own opinion rather than folowing the herd. If you look at sites like nfl.com and espn and other mainstream ones then it does seem that the Pats get a free pass every draft. I think the Pats had a decent draft and got two good prospects in the first and a potential super steal in the 7th, but I also dont think that they had a much better draft than the Jets so that theirs should be an A and the Jets a B- or anything like that, its just an assumption that mainstream sites tend to make that BB is a draft genius. As for NY writers, I havent come across a single one whose views (in terms of x's and o's and the technical side) I respect (if anyone knows any I would be glad to hear about them).
I think our drafts of 08, 09, 10 and 11 were not very good and directly relate to why we have so many holes on our team that needed to be filled this offseason. I think the Pats have underperformed in the draft particularly when you consider the philosophy of quantity that they have employed with very little to show for it.
Patriots fans who are objective will acknowledge that the Patriots draft some positions better then others. They are great at picking offensive linemen. Not bad at defensive linemen (although they hadn't for a while until this year), Wilfork, Warren and Seymour were all very good, Pryor and Brace and Wright didn't work out. Not bad at TE (of the 4 top TE's they've picked, Gronk, Hernandez, Graham were very good to excellent and Watson wasn't bad) They have a real problem with wide receivers. Most of their picks have flamed out. A real mixed bag in the secondary (Chung and Merriweather were pretty good (although Merriweather could get any better) but most of the corners haven't worked out. McCourty was all-pro one year and terrible the next, Dowling has talent but is fragile. The rest have been busts.
haha isn't catt country that bitch that disappeared halfway through the season last year after we swept his pathetic fucking team? haha stick around this year bitch when we sweep you again.
Patriots draftees who can start for the Jets right now, all drafted after Brady: Mayo Wilfork Chung Spikes Vollmer (when healthy) Solder Gronk Hernandez Mankins Ghostkowski Mesko You may have a point if you think Pats drafts are worked over by pundit suckups, but to say "you've hit on guys... very few and far btw" is either outright wrong, stubbornly ignorant, or blinded by hatred of everything Patriots. -- Edit: of course there are plenty who can start for NE too - if any Pats fan says Jets "hit on guys... very few and far btw" that'll be just as ridiculous.
Indeed. There are plenty of whispers and reports that once Pioli left, the drafts got better. The results so far seem to prove it, with the haul that BB and Caserio got the last couple of years.
For some sure. Not for Solder, Vollmer and Cannon who all look good. Even Connelly is decent as a backup olineman. Mankins was probably during the Pioli years. Not for Mayo, Chung, McCourty, Gronk and Hernadez. Even Pioli couldn't draft a wide receiver for the Patriots to save his life although you have to wonder if it's a couching issue.
not hating on ya gs but thats a mighty big step that sanchez needs to make.... i am guilty as anyone with this stuff. and as bipolar as they come. after the pats took jones and hightower i was stewing cause i desperately wanted the jets to get back to back LB talent thursday/friday..... and what happens BB gets 2 guys that we all can agree on - he will find a way to maximze these guys no matter what their draft grades were/are. i even started a retarded thread about it, mostly out of frustration, which was somewhat neutralized by the drafting of davis later on in round 3. hey what can i say. i was even accused of not knowing what i am talking about. LOL
So you saw Jones play in every game from the stands, watching mainly where the ball goes, like most fans, and YOUR evaluation of Jones should be believed more than EVERY professional evaluator, who watched hours of film concentrating on one player. Yeah, RIGHT That statement won't gain you much credibility, Sanchize. Coples wasn't even "decent" in 2011. "led the ACC in loafs" is not a good thing to have your name attached to. It doesn't matter how skilled a player he is, it only matters how HARD he plays when he is hurt and tired. THAT's what you don't know about Coples. Are the Jets going to get all that talent when he's hurt, tired, or frustrated, OR will they get the guy who "led the ACC in loafs". There is no question in my mind that Coples will flash brilliance when he plays. But given his record you HAVE to question if you are going to get it EVERY play. What is likely to happen when he's banged up. What will happen when he's tired. How will react when he finds it harder to be successful at the NFL level than in the ACC. Will he coast or will be do whatever it take to get better. I'm not saying he will fail, or that he will remotely resemble Gholston. but Jet fans should at least acknowledge the risk. As for Jones, its likely BB will slowly ease him into the very difficult transition of becoming a 3-4 OLB after being a college DE. He'll probably get some of Mark Anderson's snaps on passing downs. But unlike Coples, when people talk about Jones, the terms "hard working" and "high motor" are used. So I have much fewer worries about him playing hard every down. And although he might not be quite as explosive as Coples, I have a better expectation that Jones is more likely to reach his ultimate potential than Coples will over the course of their careers. My other question with the Jets draft is Hill. He's a physical freak, and he is a good kid and no Diva, but do the Jets really think that he will catch more balls at the NFL level next season than he did his entire college career? He's a great prospect, but you'd have to agree that he's a year or two from becoming an impact WR. Besides, you already have a 4.3 tall WR who can run nine routes. Why do you need another. Personally I'm more worried about the effect of Hill's blocking ability than as a receiver thread for next season. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the season, your 3rd round pick doesn't end up as having the greatest impact on the team. BTW- using derogatory terms like "bellifag" might make you feel better, but is sophomoric and childish
Mayo would start alongside Harris(who is the best ILB in the division) Wilfork obviously Chung- maybe(Pats fans overrate him) Spikes- no Vollmer or Solder not both- Gronk or Hernandez though if Keller had Brady his #s would be much better too Mankins- ok a K and P? really? if you have all these defensive players that would start for us why isn't your D very good? I can play the same game, players the Jets drfated that would start for you: since Tannenbaum took over in 2006: Revis Harris Brick Mangold Eric Smith Dwight Lowery Shonn Greene John Connor kyle Wilson Mo Wilkerson
so you are saying Jones has a non stop motor yet didn't produce while Coples loafed yet still outproduced Jones?
And of those 4 wins, perhaps only in one did Sanchez have any great impact. The rest of those wins were the results of the Jets defense and running game, or inept play by the opposition (ie the SD kicker) If all it takes is a few playoff wins to make a great NFL QB, then Rex Grossman and Trent Dilfer should we at home now waiting for their calls to the HOF, since BOTH of them took their teams farther than Sanchez did.
If Sanchez is as bad as you all proclaim..why would you be here yelling & screaming about how the Jets need to replace him? Wouldn't you rather be content to have the Jets have false expectations for him only to fall short time & time again? Seems like a double standard to me. Course that all goes out the window when you're trying to boost your self esteem about your own team that can't seem to get over the hump since being caught blantantly cheating.
