Hall of Famers in the midst of their careers, nevermind as rookies, have been put on the bench mid-game because of poor game performance. If Sanchez hasn't turned it around after the first couple of series in the half - then he deserves to sit. Would Clemens be worse if this team is still stuck at 3 points come the 4th quarter? He's a pro, he gets paid, he's on the roster - if the guy in front of him isn't getting the job done, he should play - the same goes for any other position. If QB can't mentally or emotionally handle an in-game benching - then he shouldn't even be an NFL QB. Simply come back next week as the starter and get the job done. At what time did it become an unpardonable sin to sit a #1 pick QB when he's having a bad game? Spare Marino, I cannot think of any it hasn't happened to.
I fear the Dolphins will adjust at halftime and they will actually have an offense. They should be thrilled to be in this game having played so poorly on offense.
Couple of things: 1. The playcalling on the 5 on the fieldgoal drive blew chunks. You just run the ball in against that team. If you have to throw on 3rd and 5 then you do that, but to throw on 2nd and 5 after the success the Jets had previously and after loading up on big guys was just a typically bad Schotty call on a key play. It should be 7-3 at the half. 2. I think something is wrong with Sanchez right hand or wrist. He has not been the same since that drive where he ran the ball in against the Titans and had the ball punched out of his hand. All the problems started then and they have been getting worse. I'm guessing that the Jets are sitting on the injury because it is considered minor, or possibly Sanchez is sitting on it because he's afraid he'll lose the job to Clemens if he sits down. Seriously, Sanchez hand strength in his right hand is very poor right now.
