def take cutler at 4 and williams or white at 9. 2nd round OL. this trade seems to good to be true.. how good is houstons center? they would probably snag mangold in the beginning of the second.
The first option would be absolutely great. I think Mario is a Julius Peppers clone, DeAngelo is a complete back that has big game potential, and Croyle is a solid qb who would be a first round pick if it wasn't for his past injuries.
Thomas could not really handle the line in a 3-4. He really doesn't have a good place in that. Williams would be perfect for either scenario. I love Croyle, and I think he is a better pure QB than Cutler or Young, but injuries make it impossible for him to be a round 1 pick. I'm not a big fan of the Bush option (although they easily could trade up and grab Leinart), but it would be a possibility. I wouldn't really do it either unless we got their 2nd round pick back as well, but it would be a possibility.
I dont believe Detroit will give up a #9 pick for Abe. The Denver pick at #29 seems to be more realistic! If this did happen, I think we sit at #4 and take whatever QB falls to us because I wouldnt trade a #4 & a #9 for the #1! I hope it comes true though!
Henderson is new defensive coordinator. Millen needs immediate help to save his job. With proper Jet draft pick thrown in makes alot of sense for both teams.
I understand that and don't think that matters. He still has a long term contract that will come off the books after this year. I don't think we are taking a RB this year so it might not matter but if we do, I can't see us keeping 4 RBs on the roster and IMO Blaylock would be the odd man out..
They're gonna do whats best for the team not for blaylock, i don't think clearing a roster spot is worth almost $1 million
I'm not sure the exact details of his contract but didn't he get something like a 6 year deal last offseason. If so than it might be worth it to take the 1 mil hit this year rather than have the 4th string RB taking up cap space and a roster space in the future..
I would not be against going with Vernon Davis at #4 and LenDale White at #9.... I know we need a QB but I think we can get one later in the draft or even get a stopgap QB for a season and try to get a QB next year.....
Please tell me the Lions want to do this! We could leave the first round with AJ Hawk and Winston Justice, assuming he can play RT. If he cannot, we should definately trade the 9 down to the 20's to get some extra picks, then take the best available natural RT. If the values not right at RT grab Watson or Mangold andworry about it in round 2 or 3. Thomas, Reed, and Ellis will hold down the DE positions just fine. In the 3-4, they're not primary pass rushers anyway. The alternative is to stay at 9 but trade down from the #4 spot. A team like the Broncos might be will to trade their two first round picks for it... Then we're really in business. Without doubt, a seriously good player will fall to #9, and #22 and #29 should bring some serious value in such a deep draft. Things are getting interesting.
There are no receivers worth that pick, so Detroit may try to unload it. It's a dream scenario for us. According to the draft value chart, we'd be getting the equivalent of the 14th pick for Abe. I think that's too good to be true. Detroit would likely want our 2nd rounder in return (not the 3rd), which would give Abe the value of the 21st pick, which means they're slightly outbidding Denver. Assuming Abe + our 3rd for #9 is true, this would be a dream scenario (although Mangold could be the toughest get): Sign Schaeffer Restructure Kendall Draft: #4=Cutler, #9=White, #35=Mangold O-line becomes Schaeffer, Kendall, Mangold, Moore, and Jones (I could live with that). We'd also have our franchise QB and RB. The only thing that would remain urgent is addressing the DT in free agency. Maybe Glover could hold the fort.
We can't NOT address the line in the first two rounds. It'd be great if we could secure DeAngelo, Croyle and Mario Williams, but that still leaves us with an offensive line.
