That would be my ideal scenario, Jabba. For two reasons. First, I'm not thrilled with either Jay Cutler or Vince Young. Matt Leinart, I like, but I'd take Reggie Bush over him every day of the week, and then draft Brody Croyle, Charlie Whitehurst, or Omar Jacobs. Second, and more importantly, you were much more fun as a Reggie-guy than you are now as a Cutler-dude. It's like you're walking around in clothes that, yeah, look nice enough, but really aren't your style. When the season ended and we were out of contention for that first pick, you became less fanciful; more business-like. No whimsy at all. What the hell kind of fun is that? No no. . . we need to be back in the contention for Reggie Bush because Jabba's more fun pimping Reggie than Jay Cutler. It's really that simple.
LOL!! Trust me SJ, I'll be a barrell of laughs if we acquire that #1 Overall Pick ... I'll be leading the charge for Reggie Bush, and I'll do it while wearing a clown suit if that's what it takes
This has nothing to do with which position has more value. Bush is the best player in this draft period. In fact, it can be argued that you put him in any of the past 10 drafts and he would be the best player.
EXACTLY legler I love Cutler and I have been touting him for months, but Reggie Bush is the type of talent you are NOT ALLOWED to pass on with the #1 Pick Again, unless there is a similar talent available, oh say a QB who is viewed in much the same way John Elway was viewed coming out of Stanford, and none of the QB's rise to that level {as prospects} in this class, you are simply NOT ALLOWED to pass on Reggie Bush at #1 Overall The Texans know this as well ... Casserly knows it ... that's why they have been locked in on Reggie Bush from day one, and will definitely take him if they stay put at #1 ... they know YOU CANNOT pass on Reggie Bush ... IT'S NOT ALLOWED Why? His Draft Grade dwarfs everyone elses Reggie Bush is the type of prospect you give an off the charts grade
Quick.... in the last twenty years (20) how many top five RB's taken in the top five EVER went on to win a Super Bowl with the team that drafted him? ONE. Dorsett. He went to Dallas after they lost in the Supe the year before. NEVER rebuild around an RB. History repeats, because people fail to learn from it. The RB should be the last piece of the puzzle, not the first, and the factual history of highly drafted RB's proves the point.
I don't know, maybe I just think Leinart is going to be the next great QB in the NFL. If you gave me the choice between the "A/A+" running back, or the "A-" quarterback, I would take the QB atleast 9 times out of 10. It may not be the popular opinion, and it could end up being a huge mistake to not take the best available player, but that's the way I'll always feel.
That's a Good Point, T-Bird ... as usual, you make an excellent point and it's really beyond debate, the data speaks for itself ... and I'm a big believer in taking heed of obvious historical trends Having said that, I'm also a big believer in drafting the BAP with a high pick if the Grade disparity is substantial, and if the prospects in question both play premium positions, and therein lies the problem ... IMO if you own the #1 Pick you are staring at a wide Grade disparity that separates Reggie Bush and whom-ever you wish to rank second It's sort of a Catch-22 ... history and perhaps even common sense says you should opt for the QB, especially if you are a team {like us} that needs a QB ... it's the ultimate premium position and it's close to impossible to win without one ... but the dilemma remains the same in regards to Bush as the slam-dunk BAP, and while it's not QB and the historical evidence points towards QB, RB is still a premium position There's another historical trend, T-Bird ... one that cannot be backed up with data, but it's lingering out there and every GM, Scout, Guru and Draftnik knows it's there ... pass on the slam-dunk BAP and it usually comes back to haunt you, bigtime
I would agree with you if Leinart had awesome tools and an awesome resume to boot ... basically if he was a QB Prospect in the mold of John Elway, who likely carried as high a Grade as any QB who has been drafted in my lifetime ... but Leinart has average arm strength and is not even close to the same caliber of prospect Elway was Reggie Bush, OTOH, likely carries a Grade that some of the All-Time Great RB's would have carried ... Sayers, Dorsett, Sanders, etc ... it's the equivalent of carrying an Elway Grade as a QB Basically it's an AAA RB verses a few A, B or A- QB's ... Very Good QB's to be sure, but they are competing with an amazingly gifted RB for the #1 Overall Pick I think any scout who is Grading Reggie Bush is Grading his upside as HALL OF FAME caliber talent
I guess I consider Leinart to be a better prospect than you do. Other than a rocket arm, Leinart is the complete package at QB IMO. And it's not like he has no arm what so ever, I don't even think he has a Pennington arm. Brady started out with average arm strength, but worked on it over the years and now his arm strength is pretty good. Leinart can do the same thing. If he had that rocket arm, he would be an A++ pick. But it's not like I would complain about picking Reggie Bush. If we took him, I would be happy since he is obviously a tremendous player. But if I had a choice, I would rather take the franchise QB who I believe is a guy who you can build around and win a championship with. History shows that not many teams can build a championship around a running back.
Even though I'd really love to see Matt Leinart on the Jets, even though I believe that Leinart is the best player in this draft, even though logic would make us believe that he'd be the pick, if the Jets make that move they have to take Reggie Bush. Bush is a unique talent, a unique weapon. You can't just say that we shouldn't take him because he's a RB, because he's so much more than that. He in himself is an offensive identity. If the team is bold enough to make that move, then they have to be bold enough to take Reggie Bush. Note: I still would prefer them take Matt Leinart, I just don't think the team could in that position.
Reading that last paragraph I realize that you and I have the same feelings toward a possible move to #1. I wouldn't complain with either one, but I would too prefer the QB.
I AGREE 100% VINCE YOUNG OR BUST WE NEED A QB NOT A RB.A QB IS A GAME CHANGER. Vince Young made USC and many other teams look invisable.
I don't think the Jets would feel obligated to take Reggie Bush. Let's be serious for a second...Matt Leinart would have been the #1 pick last year Guaranteed if he had entered. Matt IS a FRANCHISE QB with superstar potential. The Jets would be insanely lucky to be in position to have a chance at drafting one of the two. Matt Leinart would be the perfect fit with the Jets. Like I have said before...nobody should be worried about whether it's Reggie or Matt because both fill enormous needs.
They don't have to take Bush. They want a franchise QB to build around. If that's the case, then they have to take Leinart.
Franchise QB is Young in my opinion hes more NFL prototype he can run and has a cannon for an arm.Leinart is a good qb also but hes more of a pocket passer and would demand a much better offensive line then we currently have.
Abe and a fourth is alot to move up 3 slots, not sure how much more it would take, maybe if the 4th was a 3rd.
I live in Houston and their is no talk of Jets moving up here... They are in love with the number one pick. If they trade down the city will give up on football (reference: Houston Oilers)
The GM even admitted they were accepting offers. Now why would he say that for nothing, to drive up the price of a pick, when he was never intending to sell it in the first place?
So what, There is not a single RB on the PLANET who is as good as tBush is now. BTW: Don't take any of this as me wanting to trade up for Bush. Personally, I'd like to keep Abe and trade down for more picks. However, if we did trade up, it would be completely irrational not to take Bush since he is by far the best player in this draft and fills a need.
