I'd say there is a 90% probablility that if they do trade up, it's for Leinart. And I have to say that is the only scenario that I would not throw a fit about trading up. Trading Abe to move up and draft a RB in a draft that features LenDale White, DeAngelo Williams, and Brian Calhoun makes no sense at all, and would be a horrible, horrible move IMO. Getting Leinart, however, would be a good move, I think. It wouldn't be my first choice of draft moves, but I could live with it.
Actually it was about as intelligent as many of the other posts here. So far I think Abrahams been traded to 15 teams, for 25 different players, and 17 draft picks. Now that's the way to rebuild!
I dont want the #1 pick. Too much to give up and decide between Leinart and Bush. No doubt, Bush is the biggest running back prospect in the last decade where Leinart is a big prospect at QB, but, not the biggest in the last decade. However, if we did trade up to #1, we would have to take Leinart, our biggest rebuilding need. My only feeling is, it would make me sick leaving Bush on the board. I just wish we can keep it simple and take Cutler at #4, then we would have the rest of our picks to fill the other needs, hopefully OT first.
if we trade up for a QB the jets better be aggressive in free agency bringing in some o-linemen to protect the investment. trading Abe and #4 to get #1 is a lot -- especially when @ #4 we could still get a top notch player that would help this team.
Would they take 2 good players for the first pick so that we'd pick 1st and 4th? I was thinking Abe and Chad and a 3rd rounder or something but theres probably no way they could afford them and Chad is a risk.....I would never give them Abe and Vilma.....I dunno....
I don't know where we will pick, or who we will pick, but I bet we will take a QB with our first pick. There are 3 big ones to choose from, and one will most likely be there for us, wherever that may be. With the new coach, he will want his own guy at QB, and this is too good an opportunity to pass up.
I don't like the idea of trading up for Bush. I'd rather get a QB first, as they take longer to develop. Drafting Reggie now and grabbing a QB next year will probably put Reggie in his 4th year with a lot of mileage on his tires before our QB of the future has hit his stride. The only reason to do this is if we're that enamoured with Brady Quinn. I want Cutler, but if we move up I think we'll grab Leinart. He's the much safer bet, and I can't see our young GM and coach trading up to #1 and going with a very controversial (Cutler) pick.
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but put yourself in the Texans shoes right now. Hypothetically, let's say the Jets are the team with the #1 overall pick, and have a shot at landing one of the greatest RB's to come out of college in the history of history. Would you trade down???... Bottom Line : The odds of the Texans trading down are about zero in my opinion. If it were any other year, and a player like Bush was not an opition, I would think differently. But only a fool would pass on such an opportunity as this one the Texans are faced with... Later...
Reggie Bush is not the prime target. A very good running back can be had in free agency or later in the draft. Ask yourselves this...Will Bush be as good as Ladanian? Best case scenario is yes. So what!!! LaDanian didn't single handedly carry the chargers to the playoffs did he? Nope. A potential franchise QB is infinitely more valuable than a running back who didn't even get the bulk of the carries on his own team!!! (see L. White) My prediction is that Reggie Bush is the Rocket Ismail of the 21st Century. My biggest fear as a Patriots fan is that the Jets get Leinart.... That's my honest to goodness feeling. Do you think the Bengals would trade Carson Palmer for Ladanian or Priest Holmes of three years ago, or Marshall Faulk of five years ago? No way.
Though you could say the same thing about trading Abe to move up and draft a QB with Young and Cutler in the draft makes little sense. Bush seems to be a more understandable choice because he's supposed to be such a "special" player but if you look at the actual difference between him and a guy you could get later I have to agree that moving up isn't really our best move.
If Houston doesn't take Bush at 1 he will be available at 3 or 4. If I'm Houston, if he is the guy they want, which I'm not 100% sure he is but say he is, it makes perfect sense to trade down and still stay in the top 4 to gaurantee yourself either Bush or DBrick.
Since when??....The last time I checked, he was still considered the most dominating player coming into the draft. Not to mention that Kubiak is a very stong supporter of a dominating running game. To say Bush is not the primary target, and forgive me for saying so, is just plain ignorant.... Yeah, the Texans would be idiots for drafting a player as overrated as Bush. That's why the Jets are drooling over the possibility of trading up for him... Later...
The Jets will not trade up for a RB. If they do trade up which at this point is highly unlikely but if they do it will be for Leinart..
If we make a trade now of Abe and our 1st for the first overall pick from Houston we clear 8.3 Million off of our cap prior to the draft. With the money we save we can than enter the FA market and still trade our #1 pick for more picks. Trading up now doesn't have to mean we are in love with any one.
Whoever trades up into the #1 overall spot,{assuming the Texans trade out}, will be trading up for Bush and nobody else.... Read my lips. BUSH WILL BE THE #1 OVERALL PICK IN THE 2006 NFL DRAFT Later...
I think Bush is the Red Herring of this draft. So you feel that a great RB is more valuable than a great QB?
If Houston trades the pick which I think is likely it will be to either Tenn or the Jets, they both would be after Leinart not Bush.. Is this as rock solid as your Mangini will never accept the NYJ HC position..
