No matter what we are going to have to fix the oline situation for everything to work, however with a team with absolutely no playmakers, I highly doubt that we can even consider this a dumb move
Look, I am a fan first, always. If we got Leinart and he was great for us; of course I would root for the guy. I am not convinced he would work out that way. I have seen Leinart play numerous times. His arm is pretty good; not great. He is good in calm weather that is fairly benign, but let the wind blow and he is a different QB. He did not have to encounter much wind in Southern Cal, but I remember even during the last UCLA game Leinart did not look good at all throwing in the wind. His balls would float, flutter and be off target. HE would be good in a domed stadium, but he would be a bad fit for New York. He is guarranteed of playing half his season outdoors and at lest 4 or 5 of those games wind will probably be an issue. If we go for a QB he has to throw good in wind. Cutler, Young, would be better choices. Plus we need a guy who is use to doing a lot on his own. Leinart had an incredible supporting cast around him from the coaching to the players themselves. HE will likely find things different in the NFL.
Excellent post, and as someone else noted and I did not think about, how are we going to pay a #1 pick, whether we keep Chad or not, not much wiggle room to pay a #1 pick and sign some mid end free agents. As much as I hate to miss out on potential, key word potential superstars, we have too many holes to fill, agreed trade down acquire more picks.
Im a big Leinart fan but Im really questioning what it may take to get him. If you factor in that Abe could be traded for one or two picks, and that we could trade down to get two players for the price of one, thats four players for one. When meanwhile, should we decide to do so, we could trade down, draft Cutler (if Mangini decides to go with QB this year), and still get 3 other players. The price for Leinart may be more than what we can afford
Man if the Jets selected Leinart I'd probably be the happiest Jets fan Draft Day. The man is gonna be a good NFL QB...My question is why wouldn't Tennessee try and get him, Norm Chow did coach him...
I agree that he is a playmaker, no doubt about that one. But my opinion is based on several things- 1. Bush and his agents will demand a ton of money. He'll more than likely want QB money. I could see a holdout situation. 2. Running back values are getting cheaper and cheaper in this league. Two of the top 3 RB's in the NFL can be had right now, James and Alexander. That tells me that their respective teams think they can find somewhat worthy replacements for alot less money. 3. Jets OLine situation. The best way to fix this is through the draft, not high priced free agents. Why not start in Round 1? We could trade down to grab one of the big guards and keep Jones at LT. 4. If we grabbed Bush I feel it would be to sell jerseys, tix, create a ton of buzz, media would love it, etc... But would it make our team better considering the price tag? Doubt it.
I doubt the Texans would throw in Mathis, maybe the fastest player in the league, but you throw in a day 1/2 border pick on their side and I think it's a slam dunk trade for the Jets. Get up to #1, draft Reggie Bush as the cornerstone, and then focus on needs the rest of the way through. Croyle in the 2nd, some linemen the rest of the way, we can sit back and call it a good day. Though, if they want to take Leinart #1, I'd still be very, very happy. We should probably wait on a RB until late then, and just grab one next year when it becomes a necessity, but we'd be able to fill up on OL sooner. And the reason that it's OK for the Jets to deal up to #1 in this case is because there's a chance that what the Jets would get for Abraham would never match up with the value of a trade up to #1. I could see them getting no more than an early 2nd when it's all said and done.
First off, no matter who the first is they will command a ton of money, secondly I am not against traded down in fact I am for it, however if the Jets wanted to trade up I won't cry about it, however we do need to address either RB or QB in this draft it is a must
in a perfect world Jets trade up although its not gonna happen and get bust saints then take Leinart, Titans take Ferguson or maybe cutler and then texans get young which they want anyway although it doesnt make sense
The way I hear it the Jets are not only going to trade up to #1 this year but next year and the following year as well! We're trading John Abraham for three first round picks! Remember you heard it here first!
NOOOOOOOOOO! Please Jets, don't trade up. If anything, we need to trade down and aquire more players. Jesus. I can't see us trading up to #1 for Leinart???? You never know how the draft will turn out, maybe we can get him at #4 (dont want him, rather Cutler or D'Brick). Please, please dont trade up!
Were you trying to be funny? I really don't understand this post. If you are mocking the possibility of us moving up to the #1 pick this year I would be even more confused...we have the ammo to move up...and we have the pick the Texans really want.
Leinart or Bush would make me happy...how could we complain about either one? We are in desperate need for a franchise QB and a game breaker. I would grab the QB. Only Jets fans would complain about getting quite possibly the best college QB of all time.
are you sure....thats my point...we wont pick #4 either...we will trade down bro, our only real option
From what I've seen of Leinart he seems like an ass. After the national championship game his comments were a joke (he thinks they were still the better team) and the comments he made this weekend about Cutler were uncalled for. Leinart said all he does is win. And how much easier is it to win when you have the players he had around to help him. He won't have near that much talent playing around him for the Jets. I think Cutler will make a much better pro QB. O.K. I'm back on the fence again. I say we draft D'brick at 4 and forget all this QB stuff til the second round.
Let me see. Houston is considering trading the #1 pick because they have too many holes to fill. The Jets on the other hand are one or two players away from the Super Bowl, so yeah, this move makes sense for them.
