The first play along with a couple others are why that video is anything but him “showing out.” And that first play is exactly the plays that plagued his college career like crazy. The play at 17:30-18+ mins is tough too. Yeah he’s interfered with and better receivers get that call, but good receivers also catch that ball.
Yea I thought I was the only one who thought this video reeked of copium so I didn’t say anything but I don’t love what I see here. Doesn’t mean he hasn’t had some good moments and won’t fix it but I wouldn’t exactly call his Giants tape “showing out”.
I gladly trade two 6 round picks over the course of two years for an above average starting player. Especially one that is still in the prime of his career. He’s got a cap hit of $7.5 million next year, non-guaranteed, makes him a great candidate for a two year extension.
Agreed…just watching the game casually, I thought I saw 2 and maybe 3 balls hit his hands and not get caught…I do remember one the defender was close but shit, if the ball hits your hands, you have to catch it …. In the end I think he had like 2 catches for something like 40 yards? Not exactly great stuff and for a player with a bad rap of having too many drops, you just can’t continue to drop the ball
Not great, not showing out, but not bad. He did get open a lot. The 1st one was definitely a drop. I mean the ball wasn't perfect, it was around his balls and he had to quickly bend down when the got out of a break, but you have to catch that one. Another ball, he was wide open for a 35+ yards again, and Martinez overthrew him. Two other plays, where he didn't catch, they would have been tough catches for anyone. He was definitely interfered with on one of them (18th minute) when DB draped all over him as the ball came, holding his left arm. Now would Mike Williams in his prime catch that ball? Probably half the time he still would. But it is a tough ask for a smaller guy. I mean the DB is holding his left arm. That's the a very tough catch. And on the 6th min, it's very similar, you see DB jumping from behind. This could have been a PI as well and a very tough catch. Now, would I want to see him make more of these catches as he matures, sure. But again, for a 4th round pick to go open so much, catch some balls, draw what should have been a PI for 30 yards, made nice blocks. I think it's not bad at all, even if he did not make a couple of very tough contested catches and had a drop on thrown that was a bit low. I would expect him to do better as he plays more, but again for a rookie 4th rounder a solid outing and overall a solid camp according to pretty much everyone who observed.
Both picks are based upon the 2nd half of the giants game. The jets backup DL got the crap beat out of them. Applaud the trades since they didn't cost much. But 2026 draft must address DT, DE, QB, and WR. And Douglas already foolishly traded away the 3rd round for Reddick.
Yeah…I still can’t understand how JD trades for a player holding out without actually having a new deal in place…that made no sense. I don’t care if the story was that Reddick or his agent was saying no problem we will work it out…if you don’t have a contract in place, then talk doesn’t mean shit and you don’t have a contract. Period. That was BAD GM’ing…no two ways about it. Now back to the draft, priority number one totally depends on how Fields plays…and my guess is that we will see that we need to use our top pick on a QB. I just don’t see Fields playing well enough to show that he is the answer. He hasn’t been for two teams in three years, and what little we’ve seen in preseason just feels like it’s more of the same. So sure we need to see the real offense in a real game, but I think after like 5 or 6 games, we should have a good idea if he’s “developing” or not. My guess is not, but we’ll see. So priority #1 will most likely be QB. I think priority #2 has to be WR. We have exactly one legit WR. That’s pretty much it. Maybe one of the journeyman vets or one of the young kids will develop into a credible WR2, but I just think we need to get a real talent there, and that will have to come in the draft…of course, if we use our #1 pick on a QB, we are then staring the dreaded Jets second round WR curse right in the face…just brings back memories of players like Hill, Mims, Moore, etc. so yeah, I’m nervous as we’ve never been able to identify good receivers after the first round, but I think we’ll end up having to try. And then, yeah, pass rush and DT for sure will always be important, but let’s see if McD can continue to improve, let’s see if JJ can come back to form by year end, and then I’m curious to see how our DTs will play. I think DT is a bit easier to find in free agency or mid rounds…we don’t need another Q, we need more of a nose tackle big body who can play the run…those guys are not typically first rounders, they can be found later in the draft. If JJ can’t make it back, then sure, I do think DE will be a need, and the good ones are definitely high first rounders, but QB need trumps DE need. Of course, we do still have a whole season to play under a new coaching staff, so what looks like a need now may look different after the season…
It’s probably preemptive, but I don’t Fields don’t anything to convince me that we shouldn’t draft a QB. If he plays well? Cool. He has another season as a placeholder at worst and we can sit a young pup. We’re still looking for a long term option. And I don’t think there’s any way he just blows our balls off to the point where we’re like OMG here’s $160 million. We just saw the Giants do that and give away the best RB in football because they kept the mediocre at best QB.
