I believe you, but why? In whose interest is it in to restrict contact between coaches and contracted players during the offseason? I still have a hard time wrapping my head around coaches just waving goodbye to QB's in January and saying good luck. Surely they have all of the regular season to discuss off-season plans, camps, etc.
LOL didn't know that the Arena league had folded. I hear that they're starting up a new American football league in Mongolia. Maybe he can catch on there.
It was negotiated in the CBA I believe Correct me if I’m wrong but I blame the union here They are so weak and pathetic, this was one of their only “concessions” they could win. If I’m wrong I apologize, but I believe the players wanted more “down time” and this was one of the ways they accomplished this. Dumb IMO
I think it's to protect the players from coaches who wouldn't give them any time off, and would penalize/punish them for not coming in during the offseason and working at the coach's whim.
Why? I liked Petty and rooted for him, but he just doesn't have what it takes. Teddy is a damned good QB.
a poster named Gangreen101 summed it up - and it is very telling imo...... “Another reason why there was 0 reason for drafting this guy, they didn't have a plan for him at all” Why the fawk did they draft a developmental QB and have no development plan? Were they just hoping he would get it? This is most telling and disturbing. Yes I agree Hack needs to be accountable and improve “on his own” but, to no have any plan of improvement path, in this day and age, for a 2nd round pick, is a devastating error. To afford zero to help a major pick is big big big red flag to this regime. I’m disgusted. And .... I love Mac...... This is the one thing that makes me nervous about Sam. These fuckers better develop and support his growth. Goddam toilet shit Bowles. The final proof will be written in Oakland. TBD
The question is not whether NFL teams are "invested in QB schools" but will a QB guru be able to help a young guy. The team doesn't even need to admit their own people are coming up short because the player can't use the coaching staff. But the player can certainly use a tutor and can even bring him to the team's facility. Why isn't the team hooking up their top prospects with specialists is the question.
If thats the case, then Hack should have sought help on his own sooner and not just now when we have already drafted a QB. Bowles not knowing that Hack was working on his throwing motion indicates there was a lack of communication. I suppose once you get the NFL level, many teams aren't going to invest the time and resources to correct major flaws on their own. A defensive-minded coach like Bowles definitely isn't going give his time and effort teaching Hack the correct throwing motion.
So, ..we gave up a 2nd for a 7th ...... Meh.. better than nothing. Not every pick in a hit but will be interesting to see what Chuckie can do.
The kid is terrible. It was a mind-boggling pick. Our plan was for Sixpatrick to make us competitive. Hopefully Hack would learn from him. Sixpatrick bitched out and Petty nearly died. Fast forward to 2017 and we are moving forward. We had McCown and we gave Hack every opportunity to see what he can do. He practically starts 3 pre-season games and looks like god damn Ryan Lindley. The CS realized they were gonna have a top pick and we would trade up if we had to. They probably saw Hacks demeanor and work ethic and probably weren’t impressed. I guess they thought playing him would be fruitless or that he could muddy up the offseason plan if he played well. Either way the kid should have played. Maybe they were trying to increase Petty’s value or Hack is truly that bad. Either way, Hack should have played. He just shouldn’t have been drafted by us or any team before the 5th round. Good riddance Hack. Happy we don’t have to deal with that. Hopefully Darnold is much different... apparently Hack was a real ass/douche at PSU. Maybe he still was here.
Hackenberg was working with Carson Palmer's brother for a while I believe, a year or two, who is a well established off season QB coach, before he went with the motion change guy this offseason. The only thing this tells me is Bowles had his mind made up about about him a while ago and he knew they were grabbing a QB in the draft. Then he saw Teddy was looking good, and he had McCown. C-Ya Hack. It means that he sucked and so did Petty and thankfully we have Darnold, Tedy, an McCown. But alas the media is gonna create Hacken-Gate lol. Such is the life of a Jets fan. Btw, Hack should gtfoh now and not let the door hit him in the ass on the way out with his whining excuses to the media. I didn't see Petty act like a lost fucking child.
Well who knows. I mean last year McCown was playing great before he went down. Outplaying some really big names. Who knows what he'll be this year and the other guys are big question marks due to youth and injury status but yes I'm certain we have 3 top 40 guys. We may even have 3 top 30 guys. Time will tell.
Maybe I'm wrong, but to think that a QB can reach the NFL needing his throwing motion & footwork re-set is amazing to me. Fine tuning... maybe. What the fuck has he been doing all this time?
Macc couldn't even get a warm body for this bum. Hey, Hack let me know if you need a ride to the airport. My favorite Hack moment was him being chased out of the pocket and, throwing the ball underhanded. Only the Jets could draft a softball pitcher.
I don't think so. The GM buys the groceries; the coaches are responsible for what gets put on the table - or goes in the garbage.
