Gruden, like Reid, has a history of designing his offense to best suit the talents of his QB's. That's what a good coach does. You can't make a bad QB a great QB, but you can make any QB better by tailoring the system to fit the skills of the QB rather than trying to force a QB to fit a system. Reid has never made a QB better than he really was, He just designs his offense to suit the talent present and get the most out of that QB. I don't believe in QB Guru's who say they can make a QB better, yes you can clean up mechanics somewhat and teach them to drop back from under center rather than shotgun, to a degree. But you can't make a QB more than he is, and that's a mistake a lot of teams make. They try to make the QB fit the system rather than the system fit the QB. Make use of what the QB does well and minimize what he doesn't do do well. In that regard both Gruden and Reid have gotten more out of QB's than other teams got, in general, before the player arrived to them or the player moved on to another team.
The topic was Gruden and Reid being QB gurus. Not good OCs. Reid has drafted quite a few QBs, all but McNabb have busted. Gruden had never drafted and developed a qb. He hasn't had great QB play in Oakland or Tampa. That's all.
