I'll take your word that I was wrong about Harris, but he must not have been too awful since the Broncos still won the SB. The Jets' man blocking scheme may hurt somewhat, but they're hurt much more by Tanny's and Idzik's awful drafting and ignoring of the OL during the last 10 years.
Agreed. We don't want to set ourselves up to 100% need one position with that first round pick, especially when there's only truly one stand out left tackle before the water gets muddy with the rest of the players. Conklin, Decker, etc. could all end up being good players but something tells me Tunsil is going to be the only brick wall left tackle worthy. Mac was dealt a relatively shitty hand in terms of talent depth on the offensive line. We've seen this for years yet luckily walked away with a low injury rate for our offensive lineman. It's been setup to the point where one injury on the offensive line will be catastrophic for this team. Even still, I wouldn't doubt us taking a lineman or two in this draft.
It's not half the price because all Brick's prorated money comes due this season, $5M worth. Add that to Clady's $6M and you are at $11M, a $3M savings over Bricks prior number but that does not even count Clady's incentives. If the $1.5M in incentives is easily attainable then they will count against the cap this year also cutting the savings down to $1.5M.
And not sure if it was mentioned but the pick in the 7th round is the 14th pick. Denver had 3 picks in the 7th and the Jets get pick #235, 14th pick in the 7th round.
I'm sure that will have plenty in here changing their tune. Changes the whole complexion of the deal I say. Genius even.
Nothing bad just maybe a broken jaw or something. Oh wait......that's how 10-6 happened last year. Yep.
I agree, and I expressed a similar opinion to yours about the move the Broncos made when Clady went down, they plugged a veteran player in that spot and the CS adjusted their game plans to help him out and they won a SB. I don't want to derail the thread, so I'm going to get back on point. I'm not bashing the move, because I see the potential upside, but I have tempered optimism, because if he gets hurt, we are left without a LT.
It happened last year when Mangold went down, Williams at Center and Winters at RG and Breno at RT, that half of the line was terrible. I also blame Bowles, and no I'm not asking for him to be fired, but Aboushi was definitely depth worthy, but Bowles in his great imitation of Parcells couldn't see beyond his own standards of right and wrong and decided to cut the best guy we had for depth. That one is on the CS, not Idzik or Rex or Tanny.
I don't consider it a low risk high reward trade, we're counting on him to play one of the most positions on the field and he's replacing a guy that never missed games. There's more than a fair chance that this doesn't work out. I'm hot and cold on it.
You may be right, but I hope that Mac hasn't ruled it out, and that you're wrong. We do need a long-term answer at LT and we desperately need an upgrade and long-term answer at RT. LT is the 2nd most important position on offense and one of the top 3-4 most important positions on the entire team. I have mixed thoughts about Floyd, and I don't think a better pass rusher will be available at #20. Unless the Jets really like one of the top 3 QBs and he's sitting there at #20, imo the best possible use of #20 would be to secure one of the two OTs they need to start rebuilding our OL. I really like Jason Spriggs. He's fast, athletic, and is also a good run blocker. If Clady stays healthy, he could possibly give the Jets high level LT play for 2-3 years, and Spriggs could start at RT. When the Jets decided to move on from Clady, they could slide Spriggs over to LT and not miss a beat. Clady could mentor Spriggs and help him develop into a topflight OT. If Clady can't stay healthy or is unable to return to his previous level of play, Spriggs could conceivably step right in and start immediately and play well.
No, we wouldn't (imo). There's not a center rated that highly, and imo, that's too high to take a center. If the Jets want to get Mangold's replacement, there's a very good center prospect that could be available at their pick in the 2nd round.
The Jets did re-sign Ben Ijalana, so they do have at least some insurance there. I do believe they will take a LT prospect in the draft.
http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/260541/oday-aboushi-pro-football-player-pro-terror-anti-joe-kaufman Articles like this is what sealed Aboushi's fate here. Whether you believe what he'd said or not, that's an awfully sensitive topic to be openly speaking about without regard for human life.
