They did get younger. Brick 32, Clady 30. There aren't many other options where we actually get younger and get a better player.
QB has been a huge issue since Chad Pennington tore his rotator cuff the first time. Sanchez was the right idea, poorly executed after the fact. The Jets are not better than they were last year, and will likely be borderline again this year as a playoff contender. Best move here is to stockpile QBs until we find one who makes the QB position no longer a huge issue. I'd pick a developmental, highly talented QB in the 1st round, develop them with Petty, and use stopgaps until someone is ready to lead this franchise.
Mo, I'm usually on the same page with you about the stuff that is posted here, but Irish has a right to express his opinion. Looking at it from Denvers perspective why would they part with an All-Pro LT which is one of the most difficult positions to fill other than QB? No team in their right mind would do that unless they gave up on the player. He has proven to be too much of an unknown for them in what is supposed to be a sure thing at that position. Sure Mac was in a tough spot, but if he does get hurt in preseason and is out for the rest of the year, we are back to square one and this board will be saying that Elway ripped us off again. Personally I see the potential benefits of this move, but just like with any player, potential has to be fulfilled. This move right now is not a slam dunk for the jets, unless Clady stays healthy for the year. I'm not extatic about the move but I'm not all doom and gloom about it either. Personally I wished Mac would have just kept the pick and picked up a FA to fill the spot. JMO
They gave up on him staying healthy. The Jets gave him a physical and if he isn't healthy then it's all on the GM. If he stays healthy and returns to form it's another steal, only time will tell.
This is the sentiment I don't understand... who was Macc going to pluck off the FA wire that could give us what Clady is capable of giving us? It's not a slam dunk until he's healthy, you're right. But you also can't ignore the potential monstrous upside of the deal, and that's where the Irish guy is losing me with the "downgrade" and "shit deal" nonsense.
I'm going to be honest and say I have not looked at who was available lately, it's spring and I'm busy enjoying the nice weather. I'll take a look at the FA and see what's available.
Will Beaty and Jake Long were the two best available... both just as "injury prone" with nowhere near as much upside.
If he is healthy he is very good but i dont think Mac will shy away from a OT if he is the BPA on the first round , i would like us to get germain ifedi in the 2nd rather then coklin in the first because of the versatility and upside , but ofc coklin is a safer pick cuz at worst case he will be a top 10 RT for 10 years barring injurys.
It makes total sense. You're mistaken, unless that was in the past and the board has changed formatting, because I have noticed numerous times lately that I don't see threads started by posters I have on ignore. Once I click on "Show Ignored Content" on the main page of the Jets forum, it will show those threads, but it won't until I do that. Even after I click on "Show Ignored Content" and read that thread, it still won't show the thread the next time I log in or come back to that forum from the draft forum (or vice versa), unless I click on "Show Ignored Content." I don't start duplicate threads. I didn't start this thread until I had read every post/thread in the Jets forum that I saw. Had a couple of posters not pointed out that there was already a thread, I would never have known it.
We could cut giacomini and it wouldn't cost much to do so but after this signing I really don't see us taking a tackle with our first pick, especially at number 20..at least not unless there is just nothing else of value left on the board.
And still played 100 times better than Breno Giacomini. We have to break the cycle and draft offense this year in the first round, and it should be a OL.
As long as Clady is protecting Fitz, I am happy with this move. If it is Geno, why bother. I would rather have Petty out there than Geno. As for drafting a OL, it has to be done.
I think the health concerns are a bit overblown with clady. He had a Lis-franc injury in 2013 and he tore his acl in May 2015. Prior to those freak injuries he didn't miss a game in 5yrs and he played a full season in 2014. His acl injury was in May so he will be 16mos post-op by September. He is younger than brick, cheaper, and a better player. What's the problem?
Those injuries don't go away just because he was healty prior and foot and knee injuries for a lineman are no joke It's a risk on another 30 year old whose contract we may need to address again next season
What would you call someone calling a post a "tourette's outburst"..not retarded? Wow man. Typical people these days , look at the result and not the original comment. Thanks for the input.
At 20 we might be better off taking a center as I can't see mangold staying around much longer either.
It would be cool if we had some broncos fans on the board who could comment on his level of play in 2014. The pro-bowl doesn't really mean anything to me. Typically with linemen once they get in they're pretty much grandfathered in future years as long as they're playing. It's the first pro-bowl appearance they really need to earn. The rest may or may not be earned. If he recovered from the lisfranc and played at the same level as prior, that's a great sign. It's probably less significant for a LT than a route running WR like Santonio Holmes, but that injury ruined him. If Clady was able to play at or near the same level after I'm not too worried about it. The ACL, meh - players bounce back from that much better now a days. It's not like there was a plethora of solid LT's to pounce on when Brick retired.
