Well, Cromartie wasn't exactly a big time hitter in his 1st team All-Pro season of 2007, either.

Well, I don't believe so. The CB is very important in the type of defense Rex Ryan has been running here. He likes to have sometimes 6-7 DBs on the field at once. I think he was looking for a solid number 2 CB in Cromartie, where Lowery will be our number 3. Will Lowery ever be a solid #2 for us? Probably not, but he will contribute.

This is an Awesome deal for BOTH parties invovled... Jets get a physical corner and a definite upgrade at the position... Chargers get more picks and cutting salaries in the process

I'm pretty sure as long as he plays it will be a 2nd rounder.

I'm not sure how I feel just yet, talent wise we just upgraded w/o a doubt but the man obviously has problems so it's a very risky move. He's a playmaker and w/ opposing QBs staying away from revis a bit he'll have plenty of chances to make plays but I like at least some character in our players and this guy has none.

This has the potential to be a great move for the Jets if Cro plays to his abilities. He's certainly going to be playing for a coach who will utilize his talents in ways that they have not been done before. I wasn't a big fan of bringing him but looking at what we gave up it's tough to not like the move.

One thing everybody wants to do is to look at how much he has regressed over the last two years but in those 2 years Merriman who was a monster before juice/injury has been a shell of what he was as well. That has certainly had an effect on how the Chargers D played and had a negative effect on the rest of the D.

It's a low risk/high reward situation for the Jets but bringing in Cro gives the Jets something they have lacked since the days of Aaron Glen. A guy who has the potential to take it to the house everytime he gets a pick. He will certainly have his opps with Island on the other side.

It's risky for one year though, given our alternatives thanks to essentially being hand cuffed in FA or being forced to start a rookie this is a good risk to take. If he fails we don't resign him and he's only getting a little over a million this year.

I think it's a high risk, high reward move. This could turn out to be unbelievable but he could fall flat on his face and we lose a 2nd rounder. I trust Rex and if they like him that much I feel good but I'm still wary of this guy.

But then we throw away another pick, this regime has shown they are willing to give away draft picks. Eventually that can catch up to a team so they better hope this works out and he's here long term.

Granted I like the onions of it, but Cromartie needs to HIT PEOPLE. He hit Shonn Greene in the EZ. I guess that counts for something.

if it doesn't work out and we don't draft a CB this year, then where are we in 2011? Same place, fewer draft picks.

That said, IF he can get his shit together, forget passing on us. ANd that's worth the risk. I don't nreally care about the hitting, one corner that can tackle is already more than most teams have.

True, but that can be said about anybody taken in the draft or traded for. However, I know what you are saying especially after what happened to Lito last year. Does anyone think that we might try to sign Lito for a very reduced salary? Revis, Cromartie, Lito, Lowery, Strickland looks like a very good CB team to me.

I don't care if he's a big hitter or not, we have one great tackling corner. As long as Cromartie can cover people I'll be happy.

Define "big contributor." He was never going to be a star in this league, and it's probably for the best he's not a starter long-term. He can definitely be a good cornerback to keep around as depth though.

I thought Lito was good when he was playing but the coaching staff doesn't like him and they obviously know alot more than we do, he was healthy and they benched him for the title game- I think that says he's likely not coming back.

Not to hijack the thread, but you really think we should give up our first round pick for Marshall? He is going to demand a lot of money in the future, and I don't see how we can keep both Edwards and Marshall on the roster for more than one season with Revis, Mangold, Brick, Harris, and both Edwards and Marshall needing contracts in the coming seasons. Also, a pass rusher and DL depth are bigger needs right now. Our WR need is an effective slot receiver, which can be signed in FA or picked up later in the draft.

    Plus our 3rd.

We don't need Marshall, just someone who can effectively play the slot. Edwards and J-Co are legitimate no. 1 and 2 receivers. Drafting a slot WR is all that's needed.

The past three seasons there has only been one receiver who has had more receptions than Marshall. Brandon is a elite talent that could be looked at as one in a million. Now the Jets filled the void with a talented CB which was our main issue IMO. No cap this season, I say trade for the draft and go for the sure thing with Marshall.

Wow fell asleep right before this happened great news though! I still think we should draft a CB but now later on maybe 5th or if we get any picks in the 3rd or 4th.
