If they were going to do that, we should just let Brad Smith be the back up. He can hand off just as well as Mark and hes a hell of a lot more mobile!!

This would be fine with me...he can mentor both of them. I cant see Ainge being worse than Clemens, I think hes got a lot potential myself.

I'm pretty sure it's a technicality having to do with the emergency QB rule.

Brad's gonna be listed as a WR again so he's not eligible.

I thought Thigpen actually played better than Cassell two years ago, yet because Cassell was on a very good team he gets all the hype and the payday and KC is forced to trade Thigpen to validate their poor signing of Cassell. It's too bad that Thigpen is now buried on the Miami Dolphins, he would have a legitimate chance of starting for other teams.

Bah, screw Clemens. He's proven he's just a stick figure. He can know the system inside and out. How about we sign KC to the coaching staff if he knows the system so well? I couldn't even say that without laughing.

Brunell can do just as good as Clemens can on game day. PLus he's been in football long enough, started more than enough games, and Ainge is just a better QB than Clemens. There's no point in keeping The Gorton's Fisherman around any longer.

Say what you want about Mark Brunell, but there's zero chance that he's going to be as bad as Clemens. This is an upgrade at backup any way you look at it.

I am not sure of that, but I am sure I do not want to find out how good he is at this point in his carreer.

I hope this workout goes as good as his age, cuz he definitely isn't going to win us a game.

I thik them tarding him to Miami also validates their trade as well, they send him to a team in which he'll likley never see the field. The Phins might actually play Pat White ahead of Thigpen to validate their awful reach of drafting him.

Clemens managed the game as we beat Tampa last year, granted it was Tampa it was still a win we needed. Brunell also could have went in and did the same thing KC did and we would've gotten outta Tampa with the win. Do we really lose anything by signing Brunell?

We'd actually gain a lot by signing Mark Brunell. He'd be a great mentor for Mark Sanchez.

For the majority of his career, Brunell's done a great job making smart throws and protecting the football. He understands how to manage the ball-control, west coast type of offense that we run.

Sanchez and Brunell (in his prime) are similar players: similar size, same type of athleticism/scrambling ability, and both have big time accuracy. Their style of play is almost identical.

Brunell understands what it's like to be a young quarterback in this league that was put under a lot of pressure early on. During his first couple of years in Jacksonville, he tried to do too much and threw a lot of picks. He settled down and the Jaguars became a serious contender...mainly because all Brunell had to do was hand the ball to Fred Taylor and make smart throws when they were needed.

I have to agree, plus maybe Rex wants to bring in Brunell next year as the QB coach. Brunell is an awful smart QB. Brunell has made it very clear he want coach in the NFL. This season Rex could watch Sanchez's relationship with Brunell.

The love for Clemens by his fellow teammates is disturbing. Clemens is a great guy and teammate, but a below average NFL QB.

Its funny how last year everyone hated Clemens and couldn't shut up about how much he sucked. Now suddenly everyone's feeling very loyal and don't want to see him cut. Football is a business, a ruthless business actually. If Brunell can help Sanchez with his experience, that's something Clemens can't do from the sideline. Clemens is a classy guy, but class acts get cut all the time in this business (see Pennington). If it makes us a better team, which I think it will, then I'm all for it.

I can't see letting Clemens go and letting Brunell be our backup when Brunell does not know our offense and is 40 years old. That would be nuts. I think Brunell is going to replace one the young kids and we will start the season with the 2 Marks and Kellen on the roster and one of the young kids on the practice squad.

Well he'll have time to learn it he's been around so I'm sure in a backup role he would more then suffice. I think Ainge should be kept and he might be the #2, and Brunnell as stated previously takes on more of a mentor role.

    Brunell as #2
Ainge as #3 with the clipboard (provided he wins out at training camp)
    Smith as WR

If Sanchez goes down and the game is close or we are winning, Brunell goes in, manages the game, ground and pound for the win.

If we are down big, roll the dice, Ainge goes in to air it out. You can do this safely because you still have Smith as a 4th backup if Ainge goes down.
