So you get draft compensation if he signs elsewhere...

a 7th rounder will be plenty enough... we are trying to build depth and any kind of pick will do.

i wouldn't assume that k.c. is the one he's looking to trade.you could make the argument that ainge is more valuable.costs less money and could be viewed as more upside.i'm thinking tanny wants to obtain a 5th at least for one of the bench qb's rite now

i agree with nyjunc on this one.
we've got a usable backup, who is helping our franchise QB develop, and holds the ball for feely. Now i'm not trying to make the latter seem awe inspiring or anything, nor am i trying to diminish his role on this team. Which i'm not above pointing out others are. He is a class act, and that class act has helped Sanchez. i don't see why trying to keep that is bad. is he useless? i don't think so. in fact... i'd be willing to bet if he was used on the D next year he'd have just as many sacks as Gholston. :)

exactly. with the collective bargaining agreement mess, we may not have a chance at any other verteran qb, so why not keep Clemens around.....knows the system, holds on kicks (sounds like a small thing but.....) and seems like a decent guy to have around. I think in any regular year he would be gone.

Kellen Clemens is everything that is wrong with our backup quarterback spot.

i'm curious to know why you think that.
like you've got one of the more level headed opinions on this board (imo anyway) and this just seems out of character to me.... so i'm curious.

Hehe, it was just a wise-ass comment, but I think we saw a lot of what we have in Clemens as a backup QB against the Bucs. I think he probably practices pretty well, but when they brought him in, he cracked in pressure situations and was throwing the ball way off target. It was nice that those passes weren't picked off, but inaccurate is inaccurate, no matter where the ball lands.

I remember Clemens first coming in when Chad got hurt in 2007, and he looked pretty good, although rough and unrefined. Through the course of the 2007 season after he got the starting job, he got abused by opposing defenses because our line was a combo of young inexperienced talent and young inexperienced lack of talent - and he got shellshock. I'm no QB expert, but I do know that plenty of young quarterbacks never come back from getting murdered like that.

I haven't really seen Clemens perform a live snap in preseason or regular season since 2007 that seems like he is developing at all.
