Tactically, it would probably be good for the Jets to re-sign rhodes now. It is proably cheaper in the long run. The guaranteed sign-on bonus is big when you have been making league minimum. It is a good deal for the player, in that in case of injury, the money is secure. Not that we are talkng about John Abraham here, but when you are young and have a bright futuure, there is nothing like security. I do not think rhodes would be cheap, but I think it would be more economical to make the move to sign him now. He could very easily go pro-bowl next year and yes, his stock will keep rising.
I think the Jets should def sign Rhodes to an extension... He will be an anchor in there secondary for years. To lock up cotchery and rhodes, I would say is a great off-season for the Jets.
He's a RFA next year, and we would still have the right of first refusal if he actually gets to that point. The Jets got Cotch to sign before FA starts, and I think Rhodes will be even more of a priority...I don't think he will reach that point. We will obviously tender him at the 1st and 3rd level, and few teams would be willling to give up that much for a safety...in other words, there is no way he is nothing but a Jet for at least the next few years.
