We gotta look at the Ihedigbo situation a lot like Wallace Wright's last offseason.

Digs is primarily is a special teamer on the New York Jets. I love the energy he brings on defense when he gets reps, but most of his value is on specials.

I'm willing to bet we offered him a very low paying contract because of this.

If he decides to go elsewhere, he'll likely end up in a similar situation, much like Wright did in Carolina. He needs to realize that this is his best chance to contribute on different units.

It was his first year in the system and he played well. He had some rough patches but really turned it up in the playoffs. He has potential to be something really good for us. Keeping that continuity is important for this team.

He is better than an "incredibly average player". That is a horrible assessment.

it's very important to keep all our guys but besides our draft picks our D' is pretty much the same....which i thought we needed to upgrade a lil more. that steeler playoff game & the patriot blowout still stay in the back of my mind. i remain optimistic though, can't wait for the season to start. go jets!

Eh I don't see the point of announcing Smith as the starter if they were going to yank it away the next day, it isn't like they weren't planning to bring Pool back before the announcement that Smith is a starter

Pool is huge, once he got the defense late in the season he was awesome. He gives the Jets a safety who can cover tight ends one on one. If Leonard, Pool and Smith stay healthy, the Jets are in very good shape at safety. It will be very interesting to see what Rex does with the three of them. And I would think digs will come back too. No one is going to pay him as anything more then a special teams player.

Who starts at safety on this team doesn't really matter, because Rex and Pettine rotate the safeties so much.

They'll all get plenty of reps. If Jimmy Leonhard is 100%, he'll likely get more reps than all of our safeties because he can quarterback the defense.

    Also, Big 10 football sucks.

    This is some great news!!!

I know Rex liked the hard hitting Smith, but his penalties and missed coverages made me worry.

Lol you ok with a "don't ask don't tell" philosophy regarding safeties?

Our entire secondary already knowing the system is huge, most of our earlier struggles last year in the pass defense were simply miscommunications. Kyle Wilson will also be better and Strickland should be valuable.

Also, a healthy Calvin Pace will make our defense much better.

A good move for you. I've always liked him and he definitely brings good size. That said, I'd have preferred if he'd gone someplace else.

lol that's pretty random, my comment was more based on rex's word and please I care more about winning than anything revolving around who is someone's alma mater
